Not saying it has to ride like ass. Dakars ride pretty good when loaded. When you get past the squeaking occasionally, they are quite customizable where you can add and remove leafs to your liking. At the end of the day i just feel a true truck uses leaf springs. Thas what makes old solid axle chevy's so badass.

They don’t. All of my leaf spring’d trucks have ridden nice, but the coil spring rams ride awesome.

The big problem with leafs is the axle rotates while accelerating and decelerating (axle wrap) this is not ideal.

Not if you add a links to prevent that. My gbody has springs and links, but they wear as well and sag. I might be in the market for some new ones soon for the g

Not a fan of this idea and cheaper to just do leafs and shocks to improve ride.

That can be fixed by installing the axle above the leafs OR... My personal plan... Installing manly leafs. Not the wimpy stock ones :)

It also changes angle with suspension load. It's not a terrible thing, and stiffening makes a huge differnence. But its still a con.

The big dakar springs certainly don't do this as much and they have more capacity than a coil.

What would be a good coil spring rate for our trucks?

I'm about to get the AAL for my "medium" dakars to turn them into the "heavy". Should keep that pesky axle under control.

Anyone looking at dakars...just get the strongest ones.

I got you, your comment came across as being a smart ass to me not so much comparing anything.
I think a comparison would be something like: at same ride height, leafs can be better for towing and coils give a comfortable ride with better articulation.

I get it, coils are indeed great for articulation and ride quality. If you base your build around that then go for it. But i do enjoy my leaf packs that are basically hassle free and can old a shit ton of stuff.

both have good uses, but to me the main benefit of a leaf pack is the fact that the leaf holds the axle, you don't need a whole bunch of other control arms and stuff.
And overall I'm pretty sure that solid axle is tremendously more durable than independent
