Currently own an 03 Tacoma with bilstein 5100 shocks all around (set at 0") and the front has OME 881 springs. Rear is sitting on stock leafs. Truck rides pretty nicely but I want kings up front and was thinking AllPro non-expos in the rear because I want a smoother ride and I don't carry weight or tow. Assuming the rear will be lifted about 3" with the new leafs but I don't want to get a rake or bro lean. Also don't want to preload the front so I was hoping I could buy [adjustable?] kings that will balance out with the rear (around 3") Not sure if I'll need aftermarket UCAs or not.

Bottom line: Is anyone running Kings up front and if so which spring rate would I need to achieve around a 3" lift? I have an xtra cab v6 with an AllPro bumper so a little bit extra weight. Any input much appreciated! Thank you

Also curious on this question. I've got 881s and 5100s and I just put a bumper/ winch on and it sags too much. Already have light racing ucas but I can't decide which coilovers to get and if it's all worth it for the ride quality.

Donahoe CO's, Deaver leaf paks, Lockright Locker, All Pro body armor ( sliders, front and rear bumpers ), All Pro under belly skids, Warn M8K w/Masterpull synthetic line, Dual Optima battery system, 4 ea LightForce Striker 170 offroad lights, 8 ea wired rock lights, and plenty more I'm sure
I run adjustable Donahoe (ICON) CO's up front.
Deaver leaf springs out back (local/recommended to Calif. buyers)

    SAW's, Icon's, King's, Camburg's, etc...
Pick the color and the mfgr you like...
and which mfgr is located nearest to you,
for their future rebuild and customer support.

I utilize an 650# rated coil spring on my Donahoe's (ICON's)...
I have an 8K lb. winch/lights mounted to my tubular All-Pro ft. bumper.
But let's not forget the 3.4L engine is heavier then say the 2.7L
So that would need be taken into account as well.

I personnally do not know what coil spring ratings
the Kings come with nor what alternatives they might offer.

I have a friend with a double cab Tacoma...
and he runs the SAW 700 Lb coil springs on his SAW CO's.
Because his truck is heavier then is an ext. cab.
Plus he has a heavier ARB front bumper/winch installed.

Some mfgr's coil springs are interchangable with
some of the various CO mfgr's.
I believe the coil spring needs be about 14" in length.
But the CS lb ratings may need be less or more depending on ones needs.

So yer likely looking for coil spring ratings.
    somewhere around 600 Lbs - 700 Lbs.
But would be dependant on your needs/wants and truck weight.

A 4x4's front suspension should not be lifted
any more then say 2.5" (2.75" if ya gotta push the limit)
For pre-runner... 3" would be that limit. ('cuz there is no front drive)

2.5" lift max if retaining the factory UCA's
and still be capable of meeting the factory alignment specs.

In order to increase susp. lift to 2.75" - 3"
You will need aft mkt UCA's that can compensate somewhat
in order to stay within/net the parimeters of the factory alignment specs.

Because you have the Light Racing UCA's
those should be able to accomodate for added lift.
Thus compensating for the factory alignment settings (specifications)
Well... up to 3" lift on a pre-runner anyways.

For fitting tall 33" - 35" tires... cut, grind, hammer and weld.
Aggressively lifting the Ft. suspension to compensate for taller tires
is not the best of ideas IMO.

I'm also looking at the same type of set up as matt 157. I got 03 Xtra cab 4x4 with 2.5" front spacers and 2" pro comp aal rear. I like the stance on the truck pretty much level at 2.5" all around. The front is ok at absorbing bumps but the rear is stiff and I think the shocks bottom out feeling shitty on rocky mountain roads. Want an upgrade was thinking coilovers at 2.75" and standard allpro leafs but don't know what shocks for rear maybe 10" or 12" and should I do reservoir or non reservoir all 4. Any input guys thanks

Also do we need a diff drop at this height?

Your 881's look worn out. I have new ones with nitrocharger shocks up front and have room for 35's.

I currently have SAW 2.0s with 650# 14" coils on my 99 2.7L extended cab Prerunner. They definitely feel too stiff for my setup. I am looking into getting some 500# or 550# coils to replace my current ones. I do not have anything extra on the front end.

ToyTec sells a coilover kit for the 5100 Bilstein. I have it, and I love how it rides, and how if feels when the asphalt ends. A lot cheaper than King or Fox, and Bilsteins are known for their durability.

Waste of money for 5100s really. The eibach coil will fit his needs as is. And 5100s are definitely not known for their durability ahaha

Right. Which is why the 5100 only lasted for 160K miles on my Jeep XJ Cherokee, until the person I sold it to, totalled it. But I mean, what's 160K miles without blowing out or leaking oil.

And on his 1st post, the OP mentioned looking for adjustability. If the reasonably priced Bilstein Coilover kit is a waste of money, how would you call spending over $1000 U.S. for King Coilovers?

i dont think anyone else on this site has gotten that kinda mileage out of a 5100 including me. 5100s are a step above factory but just cant be compared to kings ride quality wise. its a cheap $175 set of shocks and throwing $400 at them to make the preload adjustable doesnt change that.

i dont think hes necessarily looking for adjustability just looking to get 3" of lift up front.

Kings ride quality is nothing special. In that regard, FOX are better. As to Bilstein been a proven shock, that has already been established by Porsche, Mercedes and BMW, and by myself on other cars, from Porsche, Volvo and Jeep, to my current Miata. My Tacoma, has had the 5100's for 40K miles of driving, off roading, towing and carrying crap. So far, so good. As for adjustabiliy, that's up to the OP to decide.

I'd look into OME leafs if you don't want rake. The all pros are really tall on my truck. I've cranked up the front as far as I can, to the point where I'm sacficing a lot of function for extra lift, and I'm still over an inch taller in the back. All pro standard leafs and 5100s with stock coils and 3/4" preload spacers.
