Guns, in the hands of responsible, law abiding citizens pose no threat. They are a means of sport and defense. Only the criminals use handguns, or any other gun for that matter, for the wrong reasons. ALL gun laws only pose a threat to those who follow the law. Restrictions on firearms only strengthen the threat of criminals. The government is trying to take away the only true protection we have.

I appreciate that you use and respect firearms. Its only the people like us who can make a good name for gun owners. Be safe. Happy shooting. Eat some flapjacks and pass the puck around for me up there in Canuck land!

Yeah, name stabber, pig farmer, Oh I mean, Dear Mark. Now if we had the the diversity in Nova Scotia that you preach (JK cause I don't know what you preach other than generalities about the general intelligence and drug use of the US population) but if we normalized for homogenitiy as Halifax - Then we'd have a story. Until then, keep fishing and drinking and drinking and drinking.

The Kel-Tec is a double action pistol, it has a long hard trigger pull. That is the "safety" that is designed into it. Kinda like a revolver. So- even though you rack it and load a round into the chamber, it is not cocked. That happens as you pull the trigger. There is nothing to say I know any more about gun safety than the next internet posting douchebag, but I think you should carry one in the chamber if your serious about protecting yourself, family, and property. Or if it makes you feel safe having a gun to wave around, you can leave it unloaded. Peace.

I've had my truck for 2 years and I didn't know this coin tray existed until last week . I assumed it was some electrical panel so i never messed with it.

Really??? Thats a good way to get dead. Quickly.... If your going to carry it, and your going to pull it, plan to use it...Immediately. All of these extra actions that you are planning to do, that you have practiced a "few" times, are gonna put you at a disadvantage. It only gives you more ways to screw up and make a mistake.
Carry the weapon loaded. Practice drawing it from the coin tray, both sitting in the vehicle and while exiting the drivers door. These may be actual situations from which you will need to fire the weapon. Also what hand will you be using to undo your seat belt? Is it the same hand that you use to draw/fire the weapon? Just some things to think about.... Solve these problems before they happen.... and practice, practice, practice.

I recently picked up a Kel-Tec PF-9 to conceal-carry, mostly for in the truck. I've been trying to find a good place to keep the gun that a) is out of 'plain sight' (per Texas laws) and b) I can get to in a single motion without my hands being seen by a would-be carjacker. These criteria eliminate a number of places (console, glove box, door pocket, etc) as they either require too much time to access, or can be seen through one of the windows.

Looking at my pistol, I realized it was smaller than the coin tray in height and width and just might fit with some modding. I took to the coin tray with a razor blade (wish I had a dremel for this part) and by removing a bit of plastic from the tray and a bit from the dash, I was able to get it to fit with no visible changes from the cab. Note, if the gun was any thicker, I don't think this would work, so I'm guessing the sub compact Glocks, etc won't work in this position. The Kel-Tec is one of the smallest 9mm semi-autos out there, so no promises that this will work with bigger guns. The .380 subcompact crowd shouldn't have a problem though. Ok, without further ado, here's the pictures:

1) Trim plastic from the coin tray to fit your pistol:

2) Trim A bit of plastic from the bottom of the opening in the dash:

3) Put the coin tray back in and test fit

4) All done

All this bickering about keepin' one in the chamber got me to thinking, that in itself a feat. I removed my driver side arm rest and just mounted my 45 there in its place. No quick draw required. As you are exiting the rig for the would be assailent you reach down grab the slide chambering the load, pull trigger and find the nearest carwash.
