I tried a TRD oiled filter once and looked at it and saw similar holes so I ditched it.

Can’t say the same for the other brands cause I haven’t tried them.

There have been many dyno runs posted that show no gain. One guy did three runs with stock, K&N and no filter installed. Worst? No filter!

My point exactly. You put enough stress on any filter and you'll see issues.

So your current setup is stock everything except front ram intake instead of fender wall? Oh and can you post pics?

Interesting. Makes me wonder about the other brands.

I was implying normal street driving where the vehicle doesn’t see dust or dust storms.

It did take some cutting. Let me dig up a pic in a few

Let me rephrase: You will get zero performance gains with one exception... Wide Open Throttle. If you floor it, it changes the tables and allows as much air as possible, letting some of those freer flowing filters let more air in, resulting in around 5hp gain. As soon as you let off any, the ECU then retakes control and, no matter how much air your intake let's in, the engine controls the mix and reduces the air in the mix.

So a tiny gain at WOT. That is all. And noise.

No issues with K&N cAI on my 1rst gen DC Pre Runner with blown 4cyl !!!

I change my filter every year with my spare clean/oiled filter . I also run a K&N filter sock over the filter and clean the filter sock every 3 months

Never had any dust / dirt in the intake tube , throttle body or inside the filter

    20190227_152551.jpg

Notice no dirt inside the filter after being on the truck for a year

Wonder what the results would look like without the sock over the filter.

Funny how they do their own research and not by a 3rd party. K&N is overhyped overpriced bullshit.

Possibly to see if the DA and Relative Density would change hp and tq #'s

Both DA and Relative Density play a part in making hp .when I'm drag racing I pay close attention to these in order to go rounds

Give you an idea the elevation were I live is 3222 ft with #'s plugged in to my weather station right now the corrected elevation right now is 4896 ft or 1492ft higher so the air good for making hp

During the hot summer months of July thru August here I've seen corrected elevation as high as 7800ft corrected

Get one of these instead of a CAI. It's cheaper, and works just as well.

    BAHAHAHA!

    I need one of those.

OP, if you want power gains (backed by actual independent dyno results) - get OVtune.

If you want a "cool looking" intake that makes more noise - well get a CAI.

The OVtune guys ran their truck on the dyno with NO filter to see if it made a difference - it didn't.

    Your money of course.

There is not much point in increasing air intake without also adding a free flowing exhaust, is there?

One, turbocharged.. that we reasonable evidence of anyway (also OVtune). It's not done yet though AFAIK.
