I’m looking at either spectre or KnG..

Any advice on which is best?

Any real cold air intake will be completely enclosed in a box like the factory unit so you cannot see the filter, like AFE and Volant, and draw air from the fender. If you can see the filter, it doesn't matter if it has seals around it to the hood, it is a hot air intake and a significant downgrade.

Thanks for the tip bro. What can do for my engine to be quicker?

Are you stock? The most effective way to be quicker is with a supercharger, but it isn't cheap. However after having one, I'd never go back.

    @crashnburn80

yeaaa my taco is stock.. I can’t afford a supercharger rn but in the future that’s is my plan.

Will the AFE intake and a tune help me with this a little and for better fuel mileage?

you wont need a tune. Also if you bought a truck for gas mileage, you bought the wrong vehicle..

Intakes will provide a few horsepower near redline, they will not provide a practical gain for daily driving. Your best bet is to minimize weight in your truck, specifically making your wheel/tire combo as light as possible and removing anything else heavy from your truck.

That is a hot air intake, drawing hot air from the engine bay is exactly what you want to avoid. It is a downgrade from stock that just makes more noise.

    BTW, welcome to the forum!

technically speaking your stock intake is a cold air intake. It brings air from the fender into the box, that is sealed away from the heat of the engine. your best bet IMO is to get a nice drop in filter (K&N). The only thing you gain with other intakes, unless you go with forced induction or one like URD has that goes in the front of the truck, you wont be gaining anything other than some noise.

You want quick and good gas mileage. I think you need the VW GTI mod.

I have an AFE intake, TRD cat back and an AFE Y-pipe removing the second set of cats. True the factory intake is cold air, but the AFE pulls from the same location but also has a port on the front of the box that can be plugged if you wish. Mine's open and I see no noticeable difference in mileage or power from this. In all honesty, once you're moving intake temps between outside and drawing from under the hood aren't a huge difference.

The Y-pipe did the most but shifted the torque peak to a higher rpm. I lost a little low end but it feels like it picked up a very noticeable amount on the top end.

I mostly gained noise otherwise, but still would do it all the same again.

The biggest hit to my mileage was changing from 245/75R16 to 265/70R16 tires, even then the difference isn't very pronounced maybe 1/2-1 mpg. Looking at mileage since I've had the truck it's all averaging around 17 mpg.

I'm actually interested in a CAI too, so it sounds like ya'll wouldn't recommend one unless it draws air from the fender, right?

colder air, is definitely better. denser more oxygen.
i did the actual math (years ago) with the formulas that drag racers would use that includes altitude, barometric pressure, temperature, etc...
a 10* colder air intake temperature, only yields 1-2% increase in HP... (more horsepower for us, means you don't need a heavier foot, "efficiency")
for a 500-600 HP dragster 1% increase could give you a win over a competitor...

our stock air boxes, as stated earlier in the thread work very well temperature wise... but are a bit restrictive for air flow (where the URD isn't)
heat-soak, is our worst enemy...my scangauge shows a 2* difference at speed between ambient and intake temp...

if your trying for efficiency, mileage, performance?
start in the rear, cat-back, free flow exhaust, headers...
if you can't let it "out" fast?
its a waste trying to let it "in" fast...

You (and us all) want better gas mileage, you do know you bought a truck, yes!
