I want to install a cold air intake on my new 2016 SR5 V6. Can anyone recommend a specific one they like? Also do I need to tune my engine once I install it?

    Thanks a lot!

Picture #2 looks like the exhaust is hitting against the leaf spring.

None they don’t do anything but add noise.

I like my $369 TRD CAI, I never have to worry about warranty, smog or any other tertiary issues which may surface because it’s a Toyota part. With that being said, it looks cool, makes a great rumbling sound , gave me a slight better throttle response but I have no idea if there’s any measurable gain in HP or torque because Toyota does not publish any numbers...they only state that there’s a “performance” gain. “Performance” means different things to different people, it’s a vague word.
My guess is if there’s an actual gain it’s negligible at best, that’s why Toyota doesn’t publish actual numbers. So I essentially bought myself an expensive but cool looking noise maker. If I had to guess, I would guess 3-5 HP gain at best but I’m just pulling numbers out of my ass.
You can probably spend about the same amount and go w a third party after market CAI that’s just as good. There’s been more than one thread on this, I think someone actually had it dydo’ed. Good luck.

Dyno’d with no real gains. Any gain was likely from the drop in filter

I went with the Injen. Essentially the same price as the TRD but you get a whole lot more intake for the money. Sounds great, looks great, truck feels a bit more responsive, but don't think it's adding any more than a few HP at best.

Lots of data and threads showing no gains with CAI. Sound and looks yes, HP... nope. Sorry to say if that is your motivation, you will be sadly disappointed.

Word on the street- Measurable gains to butt dyno though.

I wouldn’t bother. Can spend that money on something way more functional.

The stock OEM air box is a cold air intake system! The stock setup pulls air from the inside of the passenger side fender well.

S&B, Injen, TRD, etc as long as the air filter is enclosed and not open under the hood will give you butt Hp increase.

    1) TRD is a decent one and looks pretty good.

    2) OV Tune is your ticket, but I'm in a MT truck where OV shines brightly, where some AT trucks are never totally happy. but that's still your ticket.

btw, sorry for the lack of clarity. OV is great for the ECU. but for the transmission its great for some while others complain [endlessly].

Is that the HPS silicone coupling? Also did you just buy the TRD air box lid? Had that exact idea

Ronzio has the right idea. If I could do it over again, I would just replace the intake tube, remove the charcoal filter, and replace the air filter. That being said, I love my TRD intake for all the reasons listed by Capt Tiki. Volant makes a good looking intake, but I think it still has the resonator, which is the weak link.

I have the complete TRD CAI and just swapped the HPS (57-1600) in place of the intake tube...the TRD CAI air box lid is larger than stock so the HPS tube needs to be trimmed 3/4 to 1 inch on the end to fit cherry.

I have a 2018 TRD off road 4x4 and I think they all come from the factory with a CAI. Just check your OEM box and see the air comes from the same place as the TRD does. Just add a K & N air filter.
