Just installed my K and N and I've noticed a gain in throttle response for sure. Well worth the 199 I spent. The Tacoma responds well to all cold air intakes it seems.

For all of you wondering if there is a measurable improvement in MPG with any aftermarket intake this actual analysis done in 2009 still holds true that intake restrictions do not reduce MPG, or reverse, less restriction doesn't increase mpg.

It's a myth that more HP not used equals increased mpg as well. At WOT an intake might make more HP but at typical part throttle cruising it just doesn't matter if it can flow a few more CFM since the throttle plate is more restrictive than the filter.

    http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/pdfs/Air_Filter_Effects_02_26_2009.pdf

The goal of this study was to explore the effects of a clogged air filter on the fuel economy of vehicles operating over prescribed test cycles. Three newer vehicles (a 2007 Buick Lucerne, a 2006 Dodge Charger, and a 2003 Toyota Camry) and an older carbureted vehicle were tested. Results show that clogging the air filter has no significant effect on the fuel economy of the newer vehicles (all fuel injected with closed-loop control and one equipped with MDS). The engine control systems were able to maintain the desired AFR regardless of intake restrictions, and therefore fuel consumption was not increased. Closed-loop control in modern fuel injected vehicle applications is sophisticated enough to keep a clogged air filter from affecting the vehicle fuel economy.

Well there you have it. I have my AFe on order. It looks and sounds good. I have the extra cash to splurge on it.

Is there a need to purchase the oiled AFE cold air intake vs the dry filter? i undertstand the oiled version will allow more consistent airflow to the engine but are we seeing any major difference between the 3rd Gens having an oiled filter vs a dry one?

What does "more consistent airflow" mean? And how are we measuring major differences?

No official measurements, just going off comparison articles online. It's claimed that oiled filters filter a little less particles in the air due to having slightly larger "holes" in the filter allowing for increased airflow. While the dry filters clean the air better with finer "holes" restricting the air slightly more than the oiled ones.
So my question is what other benefits are there in the oiled filters? I feel that on this particular motor and vehicle there aren't any especially with many of us off-roading or dune riding

No benefits to oiled filters unless you want to lubricate the MAF and intake tract.

I was looking in the afepower.com website and noticed this kit:
    http://afepower.com/afe-power-52-76005-momentum-gt-power-package

    It has this aluminum spacer:
    http://afepower.com/afe-power-46-38010-silver-bullet-throttle-body-spacer
    Serrated/Helix Design:
"The Serrated/Helix design creates air turbulence in the intake manifold. This turbulence increases the air pressure in the combustion chamber resulting in increased horsepower, torque and improved throttle response. The Serrated/Helix combination design also reduces intake whistle that occurs with other helix only designs.

    6061-T6 Billet Aluminum Construction:
All Silver Bullet Throttle Body Spacers are precision machined from 6061-T6 billet aluminum for lightweight, high strength and perfect fit and finish."

Any thoughts or experience with this aluminum spacer?

what's the part number for that one? I tried looking it up but the actual tubing looks different compared to yours in the picture.

Throttle body spacers worked on carbs and very early EFI systems now days it won't do anything. The computer adjusts for more air by using more gas, etc.

Are there any independent dyno results to confirm +29hp and +31lb-ft ??? I'm not a nay-sayer since I would like to get a better intake system (Volant, AFE, etc) and had one on my '10 4Runner. But this seems a little unrealistic. Would love to see some actual dyno results other than what AFE claims.
