Oh yeah, forgot it was rectangle..........what about a big black ziptie with the latch part down under the bottom of cap where you don't see it?

Zip tie won't work because the rubber cover actually goes inside the hard plastic housing. I used some electrical tape hopefully that will hold I'll check it a few miles down the road.

I used a small bead of Automotive Goop on the threads for the plug and pushed it in. It's held so far and feel's pretty solid without looking like garbage.

By the way, I do have the MagnaFlow Cat-Back exhaust, but I don't notice much difference in sound level at all with the AFE intake.

I googled a coupon code for the 20% off and the rebate was part of the sale. shortly after I ordered it they sent me 2 coupons. one was a 20% off which i ended up buying some lights and a $10 saving which i dont think ive used yet

one filter if better for dirt if you go offroading...at least that's my understanding

Ya I ended up just keeping the harness attached and transferring the whole module as one.

The dry filter is better when off roading but is a little more restrictive and it's easier to clean and maintain, the oiled filter allows more airflow and uses the oil to help catch small particles of dirt, bugs etc.

Is there a name brand of the Automotive Goop that you used? If I go to the parts store and ask for Automotive Goop I don't know if they will look at me funny? LOL

Put my intake in yesterday finally after having to have it shipped to a friend in NY and have him ship here to CA. Install took about an hour(I didn't have proper tools and this was my first doing an engine type mod). Performance wise: I definitely notice an improvement in acceleration and throttle response, there's a nice roar when I press on the gas it was pretty loud without that plug for the air scoop in. I used some electrical tape to help seal it up since that plug didn't fit snug. Overall pretty pleased with the result of the intake I don't know about the actual HP or torque gains that AFE claims but there's definite improvement in performance. I'm also using the oiled filter since I drive 90% on pavement.

Installed my K&N today. Auto anything is all over with their order filling and shipping. It did come early only after a half dozen changes.

The install was cake other than one tight spot for one of the rubber mounts

Drives great. I had these on my last two vehicles. Those were both pretty open under the hood also, but listening to everyone talk here I started scratching my head and thinking, but really I don't care if will be fine.

I do have one thought, the air director pictured below, did anyone try it keep it in the hole where it goes? Also, anyone think about putting a fine screen across it?

The afe doesn't have an air director! Just fits tight to the firewall with a rubber gasket pushing against it. By the way, I talked to Steve at AFE this afternoon. He told me he hadn't heard of the rubber seal not fitting tight and people having to tape it on. He was going to talk to some one in engineering about it I guess. Also he told me the plug could be left off in the winter to let more warm air into the engine when it's really cold if you are in a cold climate and could be left on when it is warm.

My gasket is a little long so it overlaps on itself a bit. Haven't had an issue with it otherwise though.

I told him the plug should be over the outside of the molding so it could have a strap around it to tighten it. He also told me the plug could be just left off all the time. He said the Dynamic scoop is slick but it isn't ready yet. He also said if it is a 17 horsepower gain with their testing you could probably take 5% off of that depending on conditions which would bring you down to about 12%. Well I know his math is incorrect because that would only bring it down to about 15.3% not 12%. So what I'm getting that in the end is I don't know if Steve really know a whole lot of what he was trying to tell me. Don't know if he is as informed as he thinks he is! LOL

I just used electrical tape for that, wrapped the threads on the plug a few times and it sits nice n snug now. I just ordered that air scoop too it says it'll ship tomorrow but I know they've been pushing that ship date back ever since last month so we'll see.

Now that I see the K&N has that air director and the stock one also did, I think it's odd that the AFE didn't have that. Wonder which design is actually better.

I taped the outside of it. I like your idea better, but I think I might just take it out for some more air flow. Where did you order the scoop from?

Off the afe website. I didn't like leaving that hole open it was annoyingly loud, I'm hoping for even better throttle response with that scoop otherwise I'll probably return it, $100+ is a lot for that thing.

He told me they hadn't done any dyno testing with it yet that he knew of.I am thinking it's going to be louder with the scoop!
