What would be the best cold air intake to put on a 2010 V6?

I guess they give you better gas mileage, correct?

I went aFe, not really a change in gas mileage haha, makes cool noises though!

    Oh no you didn't!

(Listen between us, I'm gonna give you a tid bit of info; don't bring up cold air intakes.)

But the answer is no. Cost vs. result is basically nothing. And technically an aftermarket intake makes a "hot air intake". The factory one on the truck is in fact....a cold air intake.:hattip:

Stock is a cold air intake and, other than sound, going aftermarket is going to either change nothing or make it worse. Your engine was well designed from the factory.

The one that came with the truck from the factory that doesn't pull hot air from the engine compartment or suck up dirt, sand, dust, and other shit due to an open design to make it sound cooler.

aFe pulls air from the same place as the stock, its still cold air, just has a filter with more surface area.

Why would it breath worse if it has less air restriction than stock?

How does it have less air restriction if there is more filter media to pass through? Does it modify friction as well as sound bitchin'?

If the thickness of the media had increased as well, I would say you have a point. But an increase in surface area does not imply an increase in filter thickness.

Mine pulls from oem spot and is enclosed and has a non-oiled washable filter but you would need 2 intakes and a different filter to make it tho.....and it sounds cool too

KVA...........K&N tube, Volant box with clear lid, AFE Pro Dry S filter

Pipe insulation rolled up around and zipstripped to intake tube inside box against back of filter keeps the hot engine bay air out and allows for engine movement - no static connection to filter box.............

If the engine is going to intake what it needs (and the stock one is sufficient) what good does increasing filter media do? Additionally: if the filter flows better that means more undesireable is getting into the intake.

To be fair, most Tacomas I've seen on the road seem to be Barbie trucks accessorized with useless shit designed to look and/or sound cool instead of actually doing anything useful, so it's not a terrible question in that regard.

I'm not exactly sure how I can explain any better. Unless you also have a degree in mechanical engineering and have studied fluid dynamics I don't think we are going to see eye to eye haha.

    So you agree I'm right?

Well at least we've resolved that one.

Leave it as is. I will be buying the AFE dry drop in filter only, because my air filter needs to be replaced anyway and I'm sure the lifetime warranty will save me $ in the long run.

Cant argue with that logic haha. Straight out of the 3rd grade book of witty responses. I suppose if I stuck around long enough you would probably call me a "butthead" and use the phrase "I know you are, but what am I?" repeatedly.

Actually if you look at the post progression you attacked my credibility first. You also haven't made a point beyond claiming you "know about it" without providing any proof. If the stock intake is sufficient what does making any changes to it do for you beyond change the sound? (Which is what I said earlier.)
