Not on the Tacoma yet - I do not get delivery on the Pro until next week, ordered it back in December. The 4-Runner is a 3.4

Yea, the new 3.5 comes stock with a CAI and aftermarket ones are just noise makers.

That I can believe and would agree to but will have to see it for myself once I get delivery. In the reviews it looks like a CIA but there isn't much info to go by for the 3.5 in the Taco.

There have been dyno tests done that show there are no gains, they even ran it without a filter.

From a motorcycle but the principal is the same.

    https://youtu.be/yzUnqcGR0Hc

Not only do they do nothing for performance or fuel economy, these filters are actually damaging for our soft aluminum made engines. DO NOT USE THEM!

Even if there actually are mpg gains (negligible at best) you're risking several thousand dollars of damage. The cost benefit never makes sense on these.

So you're saying Toyota TRD filter is also crap? I don't have any data to back anything up but logically if the guy in the video is telling the truth then K&N and likes would be bankrupted long time ago, IMO.

I do believe that yes. I dont have any data either but as someone who is planning on driving this truck into the dirt, why risk it for minimal gains.

The general population at large isn't very bright, that's how companies like this stay in business.

If a guy on the internet says it, then it must be true. Just like if K&N posts gains, it also must be true. Everyone is right and nobody is wrong

Well, I am no automotive engineer but I know one thing. To get such damage as shown on the video, one must run an engine without any filter at all or perhaps with pantyhose over the intake as some did back in the days. There is no way even with the crappiest K&N filter, particles that size can pass trough.

Not disagreeing with what you are saying but i installed short ram K&N intake on my ranger and had it for about 4-5 years. No issues with MAF and i did notice better throttle response and a bit more low end. It felt like it brought the power band down. On their dyno they claimed like 13 hp and 17 tq or some shit.

With that said, no way im changing out my stock intake on the taco. I would like a bit more noise and a bit better throttle response but its not happening, cant justify the cost. Believe it or not, i paid 650 for the K&N for my ranger, all this shit is so expensive here.

"It seals pretty tight on the hood" lmao, do you not see the gaping hole in the heat shield next to the windshield washer fluid reservoir? That thing is sucking in all sorts of warm air. K&N intakes are the biggest waste of money.

I never believe aftermarket CAI’s power claims just like I don’t believe Toyotas MPG claims for my truck; they’re all tested-under-ideal-conditions sales hype. But I do know that i’ve been running K&N’s and other types of aftermarket filters on HP motorcycles, cars, trucks and big diesels for 30years. Sometimes they do increase performance and MPG a bit, sometimes they don’t. I’ve torn many of these engines apart and never had problems with piston wear from intake dirt like the guy in the video.....

If you buy a good brand-named aftermarket filter, install it according the the manufacturers instructions, service it properly and on schedule, you won’t have problems.........Just a scare tactic video IMO....

Surprisingly most of them do. Apparently Toyota must've missed the memo to watch the Youtube video before mass producing those no good TRD CAIs ;)

Probably not, but I also don't believe it hurts the engine either.
