Oh, and then there was this Import event that I just happened to stumble upon. I mean like out of nowhere, just driving down the street. lol
Mustang dyno. A bit conservative but if you stick with the same dyno, you can track your progress. I chose to stick with the Dynojet.

    440rwhp/426 tq.
    Mustang dyno. 400/400

Its super important to find a dyno/guy that you enjoy and just stay with him. Otherwise...Youre all over the place with numbers and thats not what you want.

Good luck with this then, just try and keep an open mind about results so you they're legit and not skewed by bias. The whole "false claims" thing could go either way. Anybody dyno for Baja?

This shop is open and can fit my truck, but they were assholes on the phone lol They said $150/hr which is steep compared to the shops closer to me but oh well. I'm booked up with trips and detailing until august so Ill keep this thread updated when I get closer to making the appointment.

I had an '03 Mach 1, bought it brand new. One of the engineers for that car came on the M1 registry, and talked about wrapping duct tape around a baseball and sticking it into the fender inlet, making all the air come through the scoop. I tried it. With just a set of 245/45-15 Nitto DR's and the baseball trick, it ran a 12.99 @ 106. I never saw any of the aftermarket setups on an equally stock motor run any quicker.

Hope to see this get done.

Not here to argue, but here's my experience on K&N, since Ive ran them on 3 of my last vehicles. I ran them on my FJ and on my Tacoma in the past. The Tacoma was only for a short period of time, the FJ had about 20k mile on the filter. Neither had any dirt or debris in the throttle body when I removed them. I didnt dyno either vehicle, but both had noticeably better throttle response, not necessarily horse power.

On my s2000, which has a similar stock intake set up to the 3rd gen Tacoma, I actually had it dyno'd and it did produce either 9 or 10 more HP in the mid range, torque also saw a similar boost. I had that filter on for 40k+ miles and no dirt or debris in the throttle. I don't have a digital image of the dyno or the original paperwork, but it is a very popular intake on the s2000 forum and there are plenty of people who dyno'd theirs with similar results. The intake on the Honda is a closed box that pulls air through vents on the front of the vehicle, just like the Tacoma, except it pulls air from the front rather than the fender.

Just another thing, irrelevant to the intake but funny since filtration is mentioned when talking about this intake. I did also have a Chevy Cobalt with 140k miles on it. Stock filter and intake always, there was a ton of residue and dirt on the throttle. I actually had to clean it, front and back, due to an idling issue once.

Heres a link to a s2000 dyno with just the K&N intake:
    https://www.s2ki.com/forums/s2000-under-hood-22/fipk-ii-dyno-results-525116/

Red line is with the K&N. Makes marginally less power under 4k rpm then more power the rest of the power band.

I can't really speak to specific specs, but I can say that it made financial sense to buy a K&N for my other vehicle as air filters can cost upwards of $25 each! Paying $50 for the drop in K&N paid for itself in just two years, and that's without any benefits of fuel savings. It's been in for about 6 years with no problems what so ever, including anything MAF related.

If you read this thread it has already been done... multiple times with different filters and no filters. Guess what... no improvement. As a matter of fact, no filter had less power! The OP wants to do it for his own edification. That's fine but other members have already did it and posted results. No increase.

I'm a mechanic that works on high vacuum machinery, it should come as no surprise, with some understanding on vacuum, that running no filter would net a loss of power. There needs to be some restriction in the piping, it has to have some form of chamber to pump on. The engine trying to pump open atmosphere with no restriction would have a lower velocity of air movement. That's partly why there's piping in the first place. Removing the filter would create a large enough leak that it probably never generated any appreciable vacuum. Changing filters would have an affect, but likely so small it couldn't be measured on a dyno.

The concept with the aftermarket piping is that it removed the resonator and rather than have a large chamber (the box) it has only a filter. The OEM set up has less "restriction" because it has more space for air. Making the piping more direct and with more restriction by removing the resonator allows the aftermarket intakes to achieve a greater velocity. So long as the velocity is higher but the air movement isnt less due to the altered chamber or vacuum line size the end results should be greater air movement. Its a balancing act to achieve greater vacuum. With something this basic though I have no doubt the aftermarket intakes allow greater air movement.

I added the dyno from the s2000 to illustrate that saying these intakes do nothing is not completely true. I've yet to see an intake comparison on our trucks using an aftermarket intake (with tubing, not just filters). I'm not saying they do produce power on our application, just that there is also a possibility that that do produce power.

The machinery I work on gets to vacuum states below 1/800000th of atmosphere.

If you want more power increase the O2 available. Then you can feed it more gas. Plant a tree, grow some seaweed.

If you want more power, the only answer is to buy the superior Chevy Silverado.
