Hello all! I just bought a 2000 2.7 extended cab manual 4x4 Tacoma and hoping someone can help with this question. I replaced the starter today and noticed the one Napa sold me had a slightly longer motor body than the one I removed. After viewing some pictures on Rock Auto I determined that the new starter is a cold climate 2.0 kw starter. After installation I noticed it has a much different sound than the original 1.4 kw starter. Has anyone else ever installed a cold climate starter, and if so did you notice a difference in the sound of the starter? It seems to crank a little slower and have a deeper sound. Thanks for any help anyone can provide!

I ran into this a few years back the real major difference is just the way the starter drive receives the power your Napa starter is direct t drive

The Toyota starter is gear drive .

With the way starters are swapped out no telling just what kind you might find in the truck

Now this is off the top of my head so the wording might not be 100% correct but should give you a idea
