I have a 2017 trd sport with 3000 kms automatic transmission. At cold startup the engine rpm is about 1100. After idling for a couple of minutes as I shift from park to drive the engine revs up to about 2000 rpm. This cant be normal and must be hard on the tranny, shifting into gear at a high rpm. Once the engine is warmed up, its fine. Any thoughts.

There's nothing wrong. Without getting into too much about fuel/air mixture, ECU Calibration ETC- Your motor is doing that because its still cold and needs to operate at a higher RPM to keep from stalling. When you put it into drive you are increasing the load on the driveline so the motor counters this my maintaining a higher rpm. As you said, it goes away once the engine is warm-that's because its running at its optimal temperature.

TL DR. Your truck is fine.
