    Hey TacomaWorld,

I’ve been dealing with a rattling noise on my 2016 Tacoma TRD Off-Road (75K miles) for the past couple of months. It only happens on cold starts in the morning and is more noticeable on colder mornings (which, where I live, means around 40–50°F). The noise lasts for a few minutes, then eventually goes away usually for the rest of the day. The truck runs fine otherwise, but I wanted to see if anyone else has experienced this.

Here's a video of the noise.

Any ideas what this could be?

    Thanks in advance!

It’s hard to say for sure but it sounds like a belt tensioner or an idler pulley. If you are good at wrenching you can pull the belt off start the engine and see if the sound goes away. Just don’t run the engine too long so it doesn’t over heat. If the sound goes away you can spin the pulleys by hand while the belt is off with the engine not running and usually find the noisy one.

    BTW Welcome to TW!

Definitely sounds like a pully loose or the bearings are going out on it .
