Noticed lately on my 2019, after starting the truck after it sits for a while and in reverse it seems to buck or jerk or miss until it moves a couple feet then it's fine. Anyone else hear of this behaviour? Not sure of forward does the same or not but I think it does.

Toyota says this is normal. :cookiemonster:

But seriously, it's probably because the transmission fluid hasn't started flowing through all the channels yet.

Lol. Cool. So the transmission fluid not low from factory? Too bad we can't check it easily. Lol

No, it's pretty easy to check, just time consuming.

Could also be the torque converter locking in that you feel. I suggest just going a little easier at first. Let the motor start to move you before you mash the skinny pedal.

I am not touching the pedal. Just letting it creep out on its own.

The engine would likely stall if it was full converter lock at low rpm. IMO there's still a programming flaw in the idle control circuit at low engine temps. My 18 has a wicked power steering idle surge when it's cold engine temps and cold outside.

So everyone is seeing this with autos? Should I just let warm up longer? It was high 80s In garage when I started it "cold". I have a temp gauge. Maybe wait till coolant is 100f?

Mine does this too. 2018 or 4x4. Always in the morning backing out of the garage it bucks 2 or 3 times and I have to break, then it goes away.

Does it only surge when you turn the wheel? Mine had a similar problem and when I checked, they did release a TSB for this issue. At "idle creep speed" if the engine coolant temperature is low and you turn the wheel, the vehicle will surge. Usually it happened when I was backing out of or into a parking spot. Had my dealer apply the TSB and the problem went away.

Not sure if it's exactly what you're experiencing, but like most other cold vehicles, you'll have a high idle. I do notice this truck is a little harsh when putting it in to R or D. You don't necessarily have to let it warm up, but try waiting until the idle drops down a bit. My 2017 F150 does this too, reminds me of when I use to do neutral drops in mom and dad's car 3 decades ago, when clearly I needed my ass beat :D
