I recently purchased a 17'Tacoma TRD Sport in California and my son is going to be driving it in colorado. It currently has a stock battery with 550 Cold Cranking Amps. Anyone in cold weather areas that can recommend a reliable strong battery-thinking 800 CCA's?
    Thanks

My stock battery hasn’t been an issue yet but it’s only a little under a year old.

The stock one works fine as long as it’s not too old.

Stock one should be fine like the others said. Otherwise, the interstate batteries at Costco are great and from my experience they’re significantly less expensive than the parts stores.

That Wally World EverStart Maxx is a good value too. Yeah, stock battery config should do just fine.

My factory battery is still going strong with 4½ years of daily driving. It was even down to -12°C this years. The factory spec battery should be fine.

If the battery is still good don't worry about it. My truck is new but I've had zero issues starting it at -35 so far.

Get some jumper cables if you're concerned. Anyone in a very cold place knows how to use them and is happy to help. Where I live, when it's extra cold (in the -40s) everyone comes together to boost anyone in need.

i have a 2017, my stock battery died a few days before my warranty ended, but i opted to replace it with a stronger one. this has been a good choice, 792 CCA. stock fit.

I've thought about replacing my stock battery as well, as my 2020 definitely cranks noticeably slower when its super cold. It still starts, but give it another season or two and I'd be worried. I have like a 5 minute drive to work, so in the winter months without remote starting it I think the battery has a tough time keeping up with only short drives. Haven't done much research yet though on what to get.

prob be better off making sure he could change his own battery if needed. Give a man a fish vs teach a man to fish thing.

I'm in Maine we just got through over 2 months of below zero weather warming to the low teens during the day the battery is pushing 4 years old it started every time to make things worse I plow with it running the plow hyd motor. I think the TRD's came with a group 27 battery that a pretty hefty battery. There are basically only 3 flooded cell battery manufactures in the entire country so every thing is a rebranded name. As much as I hate WalMart they seem to be the cheapest.

If you're REALLY concerned look into AGM and Gel car batteries from a longevity standpoint. But really as long as your battery is still healthy you won't hit temperatures you need to be worried about.

A couple of battery tips for cold weather. If you made a lot of short trips (<5 miles), an AGM battery has faster absorption recharging than flood batteries. Use full synthetic engine oil for less resistance. Teather your flooded battery via a quick disconnect to a temperature compensating battery charger while parked overnight to keep the battery fully charged.

Does anyone know what the original battery specs are. Mine has been doing great so far this Winter. Remote start is great to have for cold mornings as I can start the truck a few times in the extreme cold weather to keep battery up to be on the safe side.
