Colin, I have only ever watched videos of how a snatch block can be used to pull in a different direction. How do you normally use it to increase the capacity of your winch? (if you are pulling someone else out) From my understanding you run your line out to your load, put the snatch block on the load, run the line through the block, and then where do you put your working end?

Probably a very dumb question, but I'm new to recovery and just trying to learn different techniques.

sometimes the only way to get out of something safe and/or without damage is to move sideways. short of having front and rear winches, the only easy way to move your truck sideways with a single winch is with two snatch blocks.

two blocks also allow you to pull your rear off of something.

    lil illustration......

Ive had the DT pipe bomb for 2-3 years now on my truck. Zero issues with the pipe itself and clearing my ATO skids. The main issue is with the ATO skids. Kevin put the added cross member directly under the OE exhaust flange. When Adam bought Kevin's designs I spoke to him more than a few times and supplied him with measurements to extend the last skid so this would not happen any longer. I have no issues clearing anything else and like I said it was a skid design issue not a DT issue. Kevin's original designs figured everyone would get the exhaust rerouted by a shop and not get a bolt on Y pipe.

You know where my build is and I have plenty of pics of it being installed. It does get a little close to some electrical components so I did wrap my pipe before installation.

thanks for the heads up. i'll check it out. figured i'd wrap it where it gues under the driveshaft, so i don't cook my u-joint, but i hadn't thought about the electronics.

I have to bring it to a shop to have the bung welded on for my wideband sensor, so if i need the flange moved, i'll just have them do that while i'm there.

Nice diagrams! I need to pick up a second snatch block myself butttt all my $$$ is getting saved for new rear suspension setup.

as long as you are wheeling with other people who have snatch blocks, the rear suspension will be more usefull.

That's what I figure at this point, won't be doing anything too ridiculous by myself.

Ah, that's what I figured but I wasn't sure if you wanted to hook the working end back onto yourself. +1, thanks for the diagram.

Similar to the 2-1's and Z-rigs we set up in the fire service. I should've known how to do this :anonymous: but sometimes it's hard transferring similar information to a different use.

EDIT - Oops I can't even give rep to you. Seems like I've given too much to you :notsure:

    lol, thanks man.

yeah, lots of similar applications in other fields to compare it to. when rigging cranes, it's called "parts of line" when refferring to running the cable through pulley blocks to gain a mechanical advantage.

I notice you make a lot of sketches....but you have no LETTERING skills :p

You are probably one of these whippersnappers that never made a manual drawing back in the day, huh?

if i really try, my handwriting is ok, but i've never really had the need

all of my sketches have the writing of a 3rd grader plastered all over them. only way i can keep it super neat is with the block by block method they teach you in school. i think we learned in in technical wrighting, and probably the freshman year intro to engineering class.

All this winching and snatch block talk is making me excited to use my new winch and snatch block damn it! Might go try them out this weekend down the street from my house just to practice with them a bit.

Heck, my hand almost lost in that game yesterday when I got it all wired up and was playing with it in the shop. And Kyle already goes to bed by 8 unless it's the weekend or we are out wheeling.

That's what I figured lol. Lettering is more than technical writing. Lettering is the practice of placing text on drawings in all caps, uniform spacing, uniform letters, so drawings are legible, words can't be confused, and if necessary easily translated for these same reasons.

No biggee, I can read your writing. :D

But I deal primarily with the steel industry, so yeah I have had damn near 100 yr old drawings to work with sometimes. I couldn't imagine all the drawing work pre-CAD.
