The "compound" is a wheeling area local to Melbourne, FL. From what I know it was a housing development that never finished being built and was abandoned. Lots of trails. I am trying to get down there soon.

    Morning fellas

absolutely huge area. they were in the middle of building essentialy an entire new town when they ran short on funds. the result is a giant grid of abandoned roadways with off road trails interconnecting everything. nothing really challenging, but fun to go explore. it's a very erie/creepy place, especially at night. some of the roads dead end into cul de sacs, and you can tell exactly where houses were meant to be. i think it's a little erie to me, because it's what i'd imagine a town would look like 20 years after a nuke hit it......

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Compound

Edit: all of the roads even have names on the GPS. i've always thought that was weird.

It's only like an hour and a half from me so we could do a Sunday trip down there or one day that I'm off during the week. Whichever works best when the time comes. I know Wes would be down.

Looks neat. I like exploring. Sometimes I wander around the abandoned mill buildings if I have some time to kill when I am in the field.

The only thing I took from the wiki article you linked is this:

Discharge of a paintball gun is illegal within the city of Palm Bay

Holy shit Palm Bay must be run by Commifornians!

That's weird too, because i'm pretty sure there is a paintball place not too far from the compound :notsure:

In response to complaints of illegal paintball games within the compound, the Palm Bay City Council ordered the Palm Bay Department of Parks and Recreation to develop a city paintball park as a safe, legal and affordable place to play paintball within the city.

    guess i should read more.

they've had some issues out there with a lot of things as you can probably imagine. daytime is good to go, but police try to keep people out at night. they've had a lot of problems with streetracing. 200 miles of traffic free roads gives kids ideas........

all for natural selection, but there are a couple of houses scattered around the perimeter, so the races would start putting other in danger. plus, we don't want to get a fun place closed down now. never thought we'd be having to tell ricers to tread lightly.

Yea hurricane paintball park and hogs wild are all next to the compound pretty much. Funny thing is the compound is a giant shooting range. I go shooting there all the time.

There's some nice flat dirt roads out there where the STI and EVO guys pretend to be rally racers on too. I dabbled in it back when Leandra had a Subaru legacy gt. Compound is like a get away with anything wasteland really. Great place to practice self recovery even if it's unintentional :/

That scares me! At least in Halopaw we own portions of the property for access and have a shooting range area with berms.

it has gotten a little sketchier as more and more people find out about it. i haven't been out there for a good 2 years for that reason. that and the fact that i'd rather just drive a couple hours to ocala/citrus/etc. but wes lives right next to the place, so it's hard to avoid with it calling your name like that.

Exactly. It's always been a good place to test out new stuff parts and it's practically a short walk away from here.
