exhaust in on. sounds sooooo much better. i had totally forgotten how much i liked it when there weren't holes and leaks everywhere. it's like having a whole new truck. downside to the install was when cutting off one of the studs, i had a cutoff wheel half way blow up, and i cut about half way through one of the hard lines to the transmission. luckily i only lost about a shot glass worth of fluid, maybe less. got it all fixed up with some high pressure fuel line and some clamps.

also discovered that i have completely destroyed my axle shims. each one is broken into a number of little pieces, and the drivers side one has a big chunk completely missing. I guess i have to add those to my post wheeling check for next time......

oh yeah, pipe bomb fit over/around all of my skids with no contact whatsoever. seems to be a nice piece of equipment. URD gaskets are very nice as well.

i'll get some up in a bit

so yall done freak out *nerd talk ahead*........

spring steel used in the leaf springs has a very high elastic limit, allowing the springs to do their job.

The axle shims on the other hand are zinc, and appear to be cast. both the material and manufacturing process make for a component with a relatively low elastic limit once you reach the point of elastic deformation, and equally low plastic limit. what it boils down to, is that they are fairly strong, but very brittle. so when they do fail, it's an all out shatter.

the reason these break before leafs fail is because when you load and unlioad the leafs, they are not always putting a nice, distributed load actross the entire shim, but instead, putting higher concentrations of pressure on smaller. speciffic areas. my guess is that the failure was due to the notch they have cut out in the center that allows you to slide the shim in, instead of having to drop the axle further. that thin area in the center is right where both shims seems to have initiated the cracks.

Leave me alone, I'm fat because I eat, and I eat because i'm fat!

purely from the sound, it's so worth it! you know what it sounds like when you open the drain on a compressor tank full of air? that's what the truck did sound like. now it sounds like a vehicle again. you can hear a little rasp at 3k rpm, but i wouldn't say it gets "raspy" until over 3.5k. other than the more serious merges, or when i'm wheeling though, i don't normally hit that high. plus it's a v6, so i don't mind a little rasp. makes me feel zoom zoom fast  i'd be pissed if i had a v8 that sounded like this though lol.

nice deep tone to 3k though. it kinda feels like i got a little back in the 2.5-3k range, but it may just be my head. I wouldn't be surprised if i got a little back though. after i took off the old crossover, onse spot had a dent in it so bad that i bent the pip in two with my hands
