What light is that? I was going to use an extra hid off road light I have laying around for a handheld sun, but the led would surely last a lot longer.

Seems to have been discontinued. I got it about a year ago on clearance sale from Superbrightled's when I had a 15% off coupon code.

This is the light by itself http://www.superbrightleds.com/more...-heavy-duty-high-powered-led-work-light/1222/

Reason I got it was because it was cheaper with the magnetic base and 3' of crappy cord than buying the light by itself. I guess it was a poor seller and I can tell you it was probably a bad seller because it came with 3' of cord and no switch. I couldn't even plug it in and use it outside my truck. Just recently I purchased new cord and a switchable 12v plug.

It's very similar in construction and quality to the amber warning light I got from a Blitzpro a few years ago.

I actually just used it to do the rear brakes on my sisters Sequoya the other night and boy was I glad I had it. Hung it right from her rear hitch and lit up the entire undercarriage.

Gracias  i'll have to hook up the light i have and see if i'm happy with the output and run time, and then go LED from there if i see fit. That's a cool little light.

seems mine is smaller than the one in the pic by 2 led's. I have a six and the one you posted is a 8.

cord storage is my only issue with this set up.

I added the switch/12v plug to it so I could drive with it on the roof or where ever and be able to turn it off/on without unplugging it.

I have actually been working on a design for height adjustable/flippable bed rack for a little while now. same principal as your drawing, just different implementation. i'll run it by you next time.

Got a question for your guys if you have a moment.

I have a set of these led pods in a flood pattern sitting around collecting dust and have been trying to think of where to utilize them and have come up with an idea.

I was wondering if it would work to put them in the front of my bumper on either side of the winch. where the plate that the winch sits on and down towards the corners by where the recovery points are kind of. i know that it has a slight downward slope but that is ok with me as i truly only want them for fogs and to illuminate the trail/road directly in front of me.

if you look under the holes that are cut for winch towards the recovery points that is where i am thinking of cutting the squares out to mount the lights in.

    Main 2 questions i have,
    1) is this going to compromise structural integrity of the front of the bumper by cutting two windows out for that.
    2) would it be functional/practical to have them there? or would it just ask for busted lights?

comments or suggestions would be much appreciated. I know that i could do the fabrication to put them on the wings beside the stockers that are on it already, but i dont think i am that skilled in my fab skills to do a proficient enough job and not take away from the beauty of the rest of the bumper.

    as always,
    Thank You All!

I would stay away from mounting them "proud" of the bumper. Why not try to wedge them in like this...

What is meant by mounting them "proud" of the bumper?

Too deep of a housing to fit without being in to the headlight and grill, was actually the first place i thought of and was quickly saddened.

Proud, as in protruding in front of the bumper. You can get the mounts that use the hood hinges for support, or you can start cutting holes in your bumper. :D

Oh, I was talking about cutting windows with like a cut off wheel or something similar and mounting them actually almost beside the winch just try to get them fairly flush with the inside of the bumper so it doesnt waste light. sorry for the confusion.

    like this
    [IMG]

in the sense that the yellow is just light shining through the bumper and not actually the light on top of the plate.

I see said the blind man. That will work just fine. Your bumper will be just fine with a couple of new windows.

Do you have room to put them in the holes on the lower part of the bumper?

possibly, i believe they would be magnets for rocks and all on the freeway, not to mention what would seek them out on the trails.

I would try that spot and see how the light output is. You can always put some lexan over the lense to protect them.

in order to mount them behind the face of the bumper down there i believe they would be so far back on the bumper that it would almost serve better as rock lights or radiator lighting then fogs... could be wrong but as steep as the angle is versus the weight of the light it would have to be mounted towards the back of the bumper to keep them out of hams way, so no upward light projection???

not a fan of the lights hanging from the hoops... just personal preference more than anything.

Colin, can you give your .02 on this please???

Fog lights get more effective as you mount them lower and wider. low is hard to do with an off road bumper, but wide is certainly possible.

a few months ago, i went down to Corpus Christi to help an old friend with a similar situation. we ended up cutting 4 squares out of the wings of his brute force bumper for 2 fogs (the outers) and 2 driving (the inners).

i had some close-up pictures, but i'm having trouble finding them.

Turns out billy liked the idea, and followed suit on one of his brand new bumpers......

nice and tucked back for protection, but not so much that you interfere with the beam

I thought about them in the wings like that, but lack the fab skills to get it done and the clash of round lights plus square lights isnt visually appeasing, that is why i was thinking about the center section beside the winch instead, would be lower but narrower. I realize i would in essence lose some of the light coverage, but would i lose rigidity in the structure? because i still plan to run a bar on top like there is so these are just extra fog...

no structural loss from two small holes.
