    Howdy

    like with the lift/tires/etc......
when i look at houses i have to look for carports because i don't fit in garages. of course my roof rack is what kills it, but even without it, i'm dangerously close to not making it inside a lot of garages

got the solenoid box firmly mounted to the intake box this morning. just need to clean up the wire routing a little and the winch project is done......for about 2 weeks.....then comes in-cab controls and maybe a wireless remote.

so as we all know, most people toss their winch hook onto a shackle on the bumper, or the factory front tow point. Honestly, I'll have mine on one of the shackles, purely because I think it looks good. However, when you wheel, that part of the bumper is very exposed, and I know that I personally hit/scrape that area quite frequently. Rock rub is bad news for synthetic, and at the very least, you risk scraping the powdercoat off of the hook, and have it rust. So I will not have it hooked to a shackle on the trails. solution?......

All-Pro was pretty wise in designing this bumper, and they put a winch hook location on the inside of the bumper. only bad thing about it is that the cable rubs on the bumper cutout. again, rubbing = bad. the solution was a couple bucks of fuel line. slice it lengthwise and guard the cutout. now the hook is out of the way, and the winchline is no longer at risk of rubbing sharp edges of the bumper. I got 3' of line just to keep it symetrical. you can see where the bare line contacts the opening.

Love the attention to detail on your rig. Have a local guy looking to put a winch in his All-Pro so I'll have to make sure I show him this

what route did you take yours? I'm just doing an on/off switch with two momentary buttons for in and out. little pricey, but i may just get the 12voltguy.com switch just panel because it's so clean.

Let me knwo if you want any other angles to show him. be happy to take the pictures.

$4 worth of 3/8'' fuel line is a lot better than having to resplice your winchline on the trail after it breaks mid-pull :)

Same way...on/off with the in/out switches....i only ran the in and out wires from the solenoid. I pulled an accessary power from inside the truck for the power. I tapped behind the white plug so I could still use the wired controller if needed.

ah, so the on/off is a + lead? I hadn't looked into it yet, and was assuming the on/off was ground operated. you just saved me some time with the multimeter.

I was also planning on tappng in where you did so i still have use of the wired remote if needed.

I may make an extra splice while i'm at it though, and get a wireless unit. I''d definately put the reciever inside the cab though. don't want water even coming close to that.

on another not, dig the seat heaters

Will do. I think he's gonna wait until after Christmas to get one but I'll be sure to let you know. And we're pretty good a breaking stuff down here so that's definitely a plus!

Yeah the 3 wires in the picture, one is in-out-12v constant...that is why when you turn the connection when you connect it, you get power. It just jumps it to the other wire...very basic. You can even do it with a spare wire for a jumper. Thanks for the compliment on the seat heaters...

Thanks. should be a pretty quick wire job. now i just have to decide on a switch setup. already have "fighter pilot" style switches for my lights, so something like this would fit right in......

    Merry Christmas everyone!

got a little update before I take off for some snow wheeling this weekend.

got a soft shackle from Southeast Overland
    [IMG]

got the in-cab winch control panel from 12voltguy. thought it was a little steep, at $45, considering that i could easily piece together the components needed on my own, but after holding it in my hand, $45 is worth it. fantastic build quality, and comes with all needed mounting hardware and extra wiring ends.
