to my knowledge, there is no updated option. I really don't mind this one, due to how robust it is. just have to pull it out every few thousand miles to check for debris. a lot of owners do it once a year, or every 10,000 miles. i'll just do it with every oil change to keep it consistent. just like emptying a catch can.

Wohoo! Media blasting gun has arrived! So many potential uses! Can use it with baking soda, sand, or blasting pellets

    image.jpg

And completely unrelated to the Fiero, I actually made some time to work on my 550 hexacopter. I've had the darn thing for three years, but after piecing it together, I haven't made time to program it. Couple more hours of work and it should be airborne.

Did one more thing in preparation of these roof scoops arriving (100% aesthetic this time). though I love the look of the scoops themselves, I've always felt that they overpower the stock spoiler. the shape of the spoiler fits the car so well, that aftermarket is not the way to go, unless you're going to put it 3 feet in the air to make it functional. a long time ago, there was a company that made 5'' wingstands, that directly bolted on in place of the factory 2.5'' wingstands. turns out that these 5'' stands are even harder to come by than the darn roof scoops. so when you can't buy something, make it.....

I initially considered cutting my stock stands in half, and extending them with either fiber glass or carbon fiber. I wasn't confident however, that I'd like this new extended look, so instead of destroying a pair of original stands, I broke out the plasma cutter and welder, and built a simple pair.

the wingstand is made up of 3 pieces. 1) bottom plate that mounts it to the decklid (trunk). 2) top plate that bolts on to the bottom of the spoiler. 3) the body, which determines the height and angle of the wing. the top and bottom mounts were fairly simple, since all you're doing is matching the shape of the original stand, and then either drilling holes, or welding studs in the same locations. the body took a little more thought...

still dialing in the amperage, air pressure, and cutting speed, but each cut is getting a little bit more precise.

cutting out the first body section after mocking up the desired position of the wing, and taking measurements

Cut some holes with the SWAG Off Road circle guide for plasma cutters. cuts a 1'' hole in 4 seconds. wayyyy better than a holes saw or 1'' bit.

Of course the holes have a purpose. Dimple dies to stiffen the plate up.

new stand next to an old one. the new stands are roughly twice as tall, and give the wing a bit more rake than stock.

All bolted up and ready for mounting. it was dark when I finished, so i'll get some mounted up photos this evening.

was worried about getting some vibrations/buffeting from side to side at higher speeds with a plain sheet steel body, which is why I added the dimples. I was able to test up to 70mph on the way to work today with no issue. you can rock the car side to side pushing on the wing, so I think it'll be plenty stiff.

You planning on hitting any scca? I've spent today looking at rules for classing with scca and time attack.

Nice, should be a fun time. Our local track is finally reopening the road course this summer so that's my main goal. Just need to get some time home myself
