College Conspiracy

sub'd. I watched 10 minutes of it and feel that it is NOT hard to believe it.

$34,000 for my A.S. in pharmacology isn't doing shit for right now. It sucks that I didnt realize that it was a ripoff when I did.

 

Generally speaking, there's very little knowledge-based collegiate curriculum that cannot be learned via the Internet, library, etc. for free. Almost every course description, textbook, standardized test, and whatnot can be found and digested at little or no cost with enough will and tenacity.

The true benefits of college come in the forms of social interactions which take place outside of a person's comfort zone (home, social group, etc.) It teaches self-reliance, budgeting, communication, networking, teamwork and other life skills that aren't as easily available in other settings. It also provides experience in the forms of project repetition, and the ability to make sense of conceptual situations.

I work with a guy occasionally who does basically the same thing I do in my freelance. He only has an associate's degree. He's intelligent, and his work is good, but you can tell he doesn't have the problem-solving skills and social interaction of a person who went to college. Of course, with experience, he will overcome those, but there is a definite learning ramp which he has to process which I do not, and this sets him behind me in the company hierarchy, because I cost the company less money with communication and strategic thinking.

 

I am at the half way point, I will graduate this december with my Associates, Luckily my parents an I haven't had to pay a penny for school thanks to scholarships and pell grants. I just hope I can be fortunate enough to say the same about the next few years.

I can agree with the part that says where 95% of degree holders say that what their degree has no part of their success in their career.

I will say that college taught me time management, and how to follow through.

Other than that, it was a fucking blast, and I was on full scholarship anyways.

 

A degree will make a strong candidate stronger. It will not make a weak candidate strong, nor stop an already strong candidate from having success in the workplace.

Some people are good enough at life (Bill Gates, as an example) that no formal education is needed to realize their potential. These folks tend to be rare.

 

Man seeing that video made me glad that Uncle Sam (tax payers) is paying for my college expenses. Those four and a half years in the little gun club really payed off.

Like many people I just didn't feel I was ready for college after high school. I was too immature for it. After 4 and a half years of being in the Corps, and going to college after getting out you can definitely see the difference in maturity between most recent high school graduates and most people atleast 5 years older. Of course there are more mature people than others in any age range.
