$24 at my local dealer. Looks exactly like what I scraped off the front differential.

Huh, I thought you can't get the orange stuff. They gave me black when I asked for FIPG.

    Just 3 tons of fun!!!
Man... Lots of other people doing the conversion right now. Maybe everything will be fresh in people's minds when I start asking a bunch of stupid questions on mine in about a month.

Oh yeah, the 4Runner speedo sensor is in the transfer case or something? I forget how people got around it.

Going to need to extend my wiring harness and figure out how my transfer case is setup. In other news the transmission shop quoted me $400 to swap shafts. A bit higher than I expected but the only shop in town that would agree to do this.

$400? That's not bad at all. If you saw how far you need to tear down each transmission, that's a deal.

Yeah I guess the $200-300 quotes I saw on here were just people bringing in the output shaft.

I also need to bring the front half of the rear driveshaft to a machine shop (cut 31cm out?) but haven’t decided where yet. I also read on someone’s build thread that most shops retube it entirely for some reason. I don’t understand why cutting it out of the middle isn’t an option but I’m not an expert.

I had to get my driveshaft re-tubed for the front portion IIRC. I brought it to a driveline shop, and this is what the guy did for a living. He told me since the tubing stock is flared (smaller at the flanges, and become bigger at the center) you can't cut and balance it, since the cut would have to be at the flange.

So he put new tubing and called it a day. Very happy with the results. I used Driveline Service of San Leandro. He told me to mark where the carrier bearing was, and it was ready the next day. I paid $182 total for labor and the tubing.

How much did the hub lock ring tool cost? I'll be doing the same exact thing in a couple months when I get home for winter break

The cheapest on Amazon right now is around $15. Just search "25969 hub socket" and it should show up on Amazon.

Right on, thanks! Sometimes you can only find stuff like these at the dealership and I don't even wanna know what Toyota charges to get your hands on one.

@ToyRyd04 I know you're SAS already and everything but I had a question about my tcase. I'm using a j-shift off a 96 4Runner. Can I just unplug this hole and plug in a marlin crawler electrical speed sensor plug? Or are more steps involved? @BartMaster1234 So I broke one of my connections off way back when I pulled the tcase. I'm not 100% what each plug does. I plan on trying to wire into one of my extra dash light spots eventually.

Don’t worry about it. That’s a transfer case position sensor.

Yes, that is just a cover and you can put the vss in there. There are two styles, mechanical and electrical. On Marlin's site, the cheaper of the adapters screws onto an installed mechanical vss to convert to an electrical signal. (Running this since the 4wd swap, still no issues today). The other more expensive option is to buy the electrical vss that will bolt right in.

I got lucky enough to find a speed sensor that fits from my parts guy. The one on the output shaft is your VSS and all the ones on top are the transfer case position sensors, which I just left unplugged since I’m going to manual hubs as well

Dropped off my driveshaft this morning. Getting it retubed 31cm shorter. Shop is using aftermarket ujoints but I'm not too torn up over it. Quoted ~$190

A340F Conversion. That’s the output shaft donor chilling on the cart.

Hm. That’s the one thing I should’ve done. He didn’t replace the u-joints.

So my buddy is insisting a plug on the tail housing of the trans just plugs up to my speedometer cable just like it did on my 2WD tail housing. It can’t really be this simple? The other plug was empty.
