Cus Castle Rock isn't too far and it allows some people in Denver to be able to attend as well.

We could at least do one in the Springs, since they always make us drive way up into Denver :p

Fair enough if that's the thinking. I'm too much of a flake with work to push too much in any direction. I just figured it might be cool if a few of the meetings would be for our convenience rather than theirs. It would also open the meetings up for folks south of springs if they are interested.

I just bought my Tacoma and would love to meet up with some people in the group. I will be splitting my time between Colorado Springs and Pueblo for the next year. If I'm in Springs a meeting in Castle Rock won't be too bad, but for those times when I'm in Pueblo it would be rough.

Hey guys, I have a random question. It looks like I am going to be moving to the Springs soon and want to live in Woodland Park. I am kinda concerned though because my daughter will be commuting to the Springs for school from wherever we live. My concern is, the hwy 24 from Woodland Park and the Springs in the winter. She has no experience driving in snow/ice, and was wondering if it would be a bad idea to live in Woodland Park for this reason.

For that reason, if it's a really big deal, then yes. Woodland Park, like Monument where I live, gets a lot more snow compared to the Springs. I go to school in Colorado Springs at UCCS, and it can be annoying when the snow is bad up at home (just like it would be in Woodland Park) and the Springs is pretty minimal and school is still on.

But teach her to drive smart according to the conditions, use her transmission to control speed- not always the brakes, and BUY GOOD SNOW TIRES is my best advice. I have a buddy that does the commute, but he's in a Samurai on 35's and knows how to handle the conditions. Worst case she just may miss a couple days of school if the weather is bad. Just my .02, hope it helps!

@SoCOTaco made some really good points.
How "new" is your daughter at driving? That stretch of road can be sketchy. Also in the spring/summer when it rains, sometimes they close the pass (Hwy 24) due to flood warnings. We are still battling floods from the Waldo Canyon fire 5 years ago.
If you are confident in her driving safely and SLOWLY and she has a good vehicle with good tires, she can do it. But on some winter storm days, just expect it to take her double the drive time. Good luck.

Kind of like @hack4875 said, 24 can be sketchy even when it rains. It can have erosion issues and the road itself is pretty curvy which could make a new driver uncomfortable.

Best thing you could do to get her used to winter driving is if we get a decent amount of snow, take her to a large empty parking lot somewhere and let her practice. Hit the brakes, see what it feels like to slide and how much pressure it takes to cause it to slide. Teach her how to control the car if it starts to get sideways. Let her practice getting sideways in the parking lot.

Even better...when you get out here sign up for some ice racing. I did this for about 3 or 4 years and not only was it super fun, it really helped tone in my driving skills. In my opinion, it is an absolute must for a new driver in the snow. When my daughter gets to driving age, we will be signing up for it again. Besides, it will be some great daddy/daughter bonding time.
