Sorry for the joke...BUT YOU NEED TO GET YOUR ASS IN TO THE DOC. AND HAVE A COLONOSCOPY. What you think may be wrong could be a bad diagnosis...and get the long exam. Don't let them give you a short exam. the short exam uses a freuden scope (sp) and alot of KY...no anestesia. Way better to be safe than sorry.

Just so you know I think the AMA recommends you start at 50 unless other problems arise first. If your polyop clean then it's every three years.

FOR EVERYONE'S BENEFIT AND GIRLS THAT INCLUDES YOU....COLON CANCER IS AN EQUAL OPPORTUNITY KILLER. IT WILL KILL WOMEN JUST AS QUICK AS A MAN. SO GIRLS YOU NEED TO GET YOUR BACKSIDES INTO THE DOCTOR AS WELL IF YOU SHOULD EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS...

Diagnosed with UC about 5 years ago. I am a veteran of the prep and prod. The prep is nasty shit. I would much rather get 15 shots and let them draw a pint of blood.

^^Age 50 you start screening if you have no family history or problems. If you have no polyps you do not need to follow up for 10 years (unless you start having problems or have a change in medical history or family history ). If you do have polyps they will be sent off to a pathologist--- once it's determined what kinda of polyp it will determine your return colonoscopy. 3-5 years or 10 years. (I work for a GI, Just thought I'd share that tid bit of information)

My friends father died after getting a colonoscopy. When my father was in the hospital with a perforated appendix, the guy beside him had to undergo surgery and will be shitting in a bag due to a mess up during a colonoscopy. Doctors say only 2% of them have complications, but fuck that shit.

Thanks SWB Chick...I figured if I rambled long enough some one would put out the correct info. It has changed within the last 5 years I think but still great info. Please correct my spelling and any info I might have put out that is wrong.

By the way...NEVER and I mean NEVER let them "cut" a hemrhoid off. You know your screwed when the Doc. says I'm gonna give you a shot to deaden the area before we remove the growth. That was my first scream...the second scream was when the deadener didn't work.

What's this about an elbow? My Doc had both hands on my shoulders when he examined me. Hey...you don't think he-----

Had to give up the phobia and get it again. Am 51, with history of cancer in the family, and previous issue from the last one. Strike 3.

Thanks to some of the tips here and a MUCH better doctor, the whole process was a complete non-event. Couple of minor things to address, but much better.

One add-on to the Desitin tip...that stuff is hard to get off. Liquid dishwashing soap cleans it easily.

Thanks for sharing on this subject. Who'd have thought?

Old thread I know, but with Chadwick Boseman dying from colon cancer at age 43 recently relevant. Get it done guys.

My dad was a colon cancer survivor because it was caught soon. He ended up dying one week shy of 90, but it wasn't cancer. They started me at 41 based on my dad's history. I've had to have a couple of polyp's removed each time. They may eventually turn into cancer.

I have my 4th next week. They are getting better. Last time they used propofol to put me to sleep, it is a much better drug. You wake up quickly and feel great. The old stuff left you groggy for hours afterward.

Yes propofl is a much better drug (even Michael Jackson died from it) but you are right. You come out of it feeling refreshed. By the way for those of you haven't had the privledge yet it will fill you up with air and when you get dressed and started walking away you will start to expel the air (fart) and I'm proud to say I can let my motor run for an entire city block.....OH YEAH......

Just turned 50 and have my coming up in a couple weeks. The starvation beforehand sounds like the worst part, plus hoping my legs don't fall asleep sitting on the toilet.

Just as long as they knock you out for the procedure it's not bad. They hook an IV in your arm give you a shot to relax you (sure they do, it's for relaxation, of course I believe you) and then you can lay your head down and when you wake up it's over. Just don't let them do the short exam. Tell the Doc. you want the long one. That way they can look through out the entire colon. If they're in there it's best to do it all and do it right. By the way my dad is still kicking at 94 and they found his colon cancer and cut out parts of it to save his life. That was more than 20 years ago. I know I say don't be afraid but once you gone through one you'll see it's nothing to be afraid of. I've had 5 so far and it's all outpatient. Just have someone drive you home because the knock out juice will still be in your system. It's a good feeling being told no problems......
