So. I took delivery on my 2023 Tacoma today. I pre order my accessories. Attempting to install my door edge guards. There no adhesive inside the strips. I begin tapping them in place with rubber mallet. As I work my way down midway the top keeps popping out tried the opposite end. Same issue. I have them aligned properly. So what’s the secret?

Also my Truxedo Truxport roll cover doesn’t cover out to the end edge of tail gate. It stops right on the inside edge. That normal ? Couldn’t call them they were closed today.

    thanks

When I installed my edge guards, one side went on easily. The other side had the problem that you describe. I got one of those little tubes of super glue gel and applied a little inside the top foot or so of the edge guard channel. Tapped that in place and held it until the glue set. (Somewhere between 5 and 10 minutes.) Then did the same thing to the bottom foot or so. Use this stuff sparingly, because if it squeezes out, it will leave a white residue on your paint. Then you will have to carefully remove the residue with a razor blade and a toothbrush.

my truxedo sits over the inside edge of the tailgate but has enough coverage. Perhaps a picture of the install issue might help people understand.

Don't waste your money and if you're insisting on putting them on don't use super glue. A little emblem adhesive will work just fine and wont screw up the paint like supper glue will.

Most covers go to the edge of the tailgate or a the end of the quarter panel
I have the same cover and it works as intended

If you're thinking it should go to the outside bumper side edge of the tailgate that would be a no. My BakFlip stops at the inside edge (bed side) of the tailgate and overlaps that edge maybe an inch or so, and every other brand I've seen is the same.

I installed those on my truck. The "secret" is follow the instruction to the letter. Even try to find that small, two-sided mallet they use in the instructions. If you use too big a mallet, you will ruin them. Ask me how I know. Once they start to pop off, they will not stay on, an in my experience they are essentially ruined. You cannot pinch them back into shape. Also, they don't use adhesive. They crimp onto the edge. You also have to make sure you cut off any door sealant as mentioned in the instructions.

    FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS

Simply don't use them. They are a pain in the ass later when you remove them because they start looking bad.

True. I have the same one. There is a rubber seal that comes down on the top of the tail gate. I will tell you that due to how these beds are made, there will be gaps in both top corners toward the cab. Once you close the top, look inside and you will see light. Not much water comes in. Most have a bed mat so the water drains underneath and thru the drain holes.

The nozzle on the tube of 3M emblem adhesive is too large to get the glue inside the channel of the edge guards. You could use a toothpick as an applicator, but that's too messy and takes too much time in the application. But mainly, it takes too much time to set up. I used the gel super glue and had good results.

XPEL makes a door edge guard kit for like $11 that takes 20 minutes to install, is basically idiot proof, and won't destroy your paint like super glue 100% will

You can put the 3m in a small syringe and a small needle. That super glue is going to soak up into the clear and when you remove the moldings after a few years that super glue has damaged the clear. See it a few times.

What about putting the edgeguard in a pot of hot water? can you make them more pliable by doing so? Then as they cool down, they would be gripping the edge harder.

Why would you remove the moldings? I've had the original edge guards on my Ford Ranger for 23 years with no problems.

The Toyota edge guards are metal. Not like the cheap plastic aftermarket stuff.

Let say that super glue get hard, brittle and cracks which is consistent with super glue. Then you need to remove it and attach it back. All I am saying is super glue is bad because it will damage the paint and won't hold up. I don't care for the moldings but hey it's not my truck I just wouldn't use super glue.

Don't use super glue it will eat through your clear coat and damages the paint. And because Toyota's paint is pretty thin, it can be a weak spot for rust when gunk builds up.

I was thinking of installing this product found on Amazon, it appears to have rubber or plastic inside to hold it in place.

Edge Trim Black Large, Fits Edge 1/4 Inch, Length 10 Feet (3.05 Meter)
IT HAS METAL THAT IS COVERED IN RUBBER
