My 2019 Limited came with SR style chrome grill which I swapped out for black honeycomb sport version. The original grill is just collecting dust in my basement. I was thinking I might try to paint it (superwhite) to match the truck.

I think it would look decent if the DIY rattle can spray paint job was a success but I'm questioning how the paint would take to the plastic and the durability of it on a grill. Has anyone here done this with factory matching paint & if so, would you be willing to share your experience?

I guess worst case scenario is that it looks like dog doo when I'm done in which case I would simply put the sport grill and bezel back on the truck.

I think it could look good if the primer that you use is close in color to whatever top coat color you’re using per piece. That way if you get rock chips or blemishes it’s not chrome that shows through. There are some painters on here that I’m sure will have great insight

I did it around 3 years ago ....... first plasti-dipped the black SR5 grill with white with several coats, Then painted it with super white paint, again with several coats. Has held up fine. Sorry, these are the only pics I have now.IMG_20200629_122600 (3).jpg IMG_20190815_124622 (2).jpg

Thanks for the tips. I want to paint my 2016 cheese grater grill black. Hate the chrome!

I saw one of my neighbors '20/21? OR now has the cheese grater painted white like the truck. I am not a fan but it's a good color match.

I have letter overlays that are color matched to the specific paint code. Its like a hard plastic thing that sits on the letters

I need a new grill because the paint on the TRD Pro grill is fading and it doesn't fit perfectly because there are some obvious gaps

OEM are cheap now since they sell them with the lift kit.

I color matched the chrome around my grill about 6 months ago. I spent alot of time prepping it and using all of the correct primer and paint. I should have spent more time prepping the edges apparently. Ive gotten alot of chip out since then. So much that I bit the bullet and just ordered a new grill from Taco Vinyl. Ill play with the old one after I swap them out to help improve my skills. Food for thought!
