I went to the dealer today to inquire about a color matched grille. I currently have a chrome and want a BSP grille. So I was quoted on a new color matched grille for $285.11

If I bring them a grille besides chrome which can not be painted properly the will repaint for $89.89

So now I either need to trade some one straight up chrome for BSP or find any color grille have it painted and try to sell my chrome grille.

With everyone buying the grille crafts I thought this might be helpful.

    Anyone want to trade?

Still kind high for an unpainted.
    Unpainted
    05-08

    $128.50

I am looking for an even swap of any color for my chrome. Or I have seen as low as $50 on ebay.

I inquired about getting my rear chrome bumper painted and was turned down by multiple shops who said it wasn't a good idea and the paint would just start to chip and flake off after a few months.
They said that the chrome was too hard of a surface to prep correctly.
I don't know i'm not an expert on the subject, but I'd think they'd want my business if they could do it.

If you decide to paint yours let us know how it holds up, I'm interested to see if it works.

I'd like to have a painted grill as well, the online price for a painted one is not bad at all. As far as the rear chrome bumper, yeah you can't really paint over chrome metal. Could have it powercoated though, that might look cool.

Hmm, just checked shoptrd.com, shows $193.17 plus shipping on their site, did you get a discount?

I didn't get a discount but I called them because gray wasn't listed. I questioned him when he quoted the price because of the website and he assured me what he quoted was correct. Give them a call the guys name is Jeff, very easy to do business with.

So what about a painted rear bumper, can't find one anywhere on the OEM part sites?

you cant paint chrome metal bumpers unless you sandblast off the chrome.
the grille wil hold up as long as you scuff it really good. you can get a plastic promoter to help the paint to stick.
i've done autobody now for 17 years(not full time anymore, thank god) but its all in the prep and i'll take pics and show you guys.

Anyone ever tried to have them powder coated? I know some people have been looking at doing the rear bumper but does anyone have any pictures?

I've seen a number of you painting your Tacoma badges which are chrome plastic. Why would there be any difference in painting the grill surround? If you scuff it up a bit, use an adhesion promoter and paint, shouldn't that work?

Ok I found a grille on Ebay for $55 shipped. So now I need to save up a little and hold off for a week or two before the wife will let me spend the cash to get it painted by the dealer.

    Side note.
Anyone want a chrome grille? MAke me an offer.
