    Hey TW folks:

I am in the hunt for a high-rise camper shell for my 1st gen. She is currently running a color-matched black snug top, but I want extra headroom for my summer car living. Thoughts on the overall aesthetics of a color match vs a contrasting topper?
upload_2025-3-17_16-40-2.pngcontrast lookin nice here... but so does the current. (file attatched) Thanks yall!

Pretty cheap and easy to bedline it black if you don’t like it

I personally prefer a color matched topper (mine is black on my black truck).

I do also think that some mismatched ones look good, like some black-and-white combinations specifically.

Color matched for sure, but if it’s between color matched or camping out of a high-rise, I’d be tempted to go with the high-rise.

I only like a mismatch when the topper is black. Otherwise color match it. I agree that you should just bed line it black.

When I restored my Land Rover I bought a paint gun from eastwood and got paint from a auto body supplier. It's not hard. Not sure why one would rhino line it when you can just paint it to match. There are some good coded rattle cans that will give you a good match. Just do the prep right -- sand it, prime it, and paint and clear. The mismatch wouldn't work for me.. GL~

If it was color matched, I doubt you would ever think about painting it a contrasting color. If it’s not color matched, you will probably constantly think about painting it to match.

I think it will come down to your own personal taste and "Budget". If you're tight on money, then who really cares if it matches the color of your Truck. You're looking for more head room, and I can understand that. But I wouldn't go out of my way to paint it, unless you already have the funds to do it.

I think looks wise, color match is better. I wish I could have found a high rise one when I was looking, but it was difficult enough just finding anything. I found a used one that was I believe radiant red which didn't match my impulse red Tacoma at all and I didn't like it. I bought some cans of spray paint from automotive touch up. Not an exact match of course, the original paint is 23 years old now.

I put on a white vinyl wrap top, kind of a throwback look to the FJ cruiser that I should have bought in 2014, lol. My first attempt at vinyl wrap, I didn't like it, it was pretty difficult around the front corners. In the end, I'm going to remove the camper shell all together. I like it better without it. I think I'm going back to black wheels too. All this to say, as the poster above said, it's up to you and your budget.
