I have a chrome outside grille piece or whatever that’s called. Does anybody know if I can replace it with a color matches one or take it to a place to get painted?

You can do any of what you asked. When I had a chrome I sanded it down a bunch, wet sanded it, grabbed some dupli-color color matched pain and color sanded between each layer then did clear and did it again. 6 or 7 coats. Looked pretty damn factory. Def easier to have a shop do it but not hard just takes time.

Find a color matched Toyota grill... @ $250. They match and the paint will stay. my understanding is the chrome is actually a paint, but paint over chrome is a no go. Since I don't know for sure, I am buying a full grill when the time comes.

Buy a color matched 2011 grille and update the look of your truck at the same time. 2011 is the 1 year only honeycomb grille.

Buy one already painted and some fool will want your chrome one.

Not everyone is into monochromatic, blacked out & LED lit. :anonymous:

really depends on how much effort, cost, etc you want to put into it. I opted to buy a color matched one and just sold the chrome because I don't know jack shit about painting, and didn't want to pay to have it painted.

I don't know if the factory chrome outer grill is metal or plastic (I assume), my aftermarket is plastic. Should be able to sand it and DIY for under $60 or so. Even using professional automotive refinish products. Our (Napa) paint guy mixes factory colors in aerosol spray bombs all the time. Different grade than the off-the shelf stuff. IF you're DIYer...

Thanks for the recommendation. I thought for sure they wouldn't ship to Hawaii, since most places don't do aerosol. But, so far, it seems like they do. I didn't complete the order, but seemed like it would've gone through with extra shipping cost (which you start to become totally fine with living here).
I'm jealous you have the Spruce Mica btw.

Hey guys quick question if anyone happens to know. I am looking for a grill upgrade to my early 2nd gen 2008 and this 2011 honeycomb grille color matched seems to be a home run hitter if u don't wanna get like a Homertaco grill. My question is does anyone know if the size of the honeycomb cutouts is similar to the 2016 and up TRD honeycomb grilles ? the reason I ask is they make raptor light kits to fit in those honeycombs such as the one below. any help would be great. thanks guys!

    Raptor lights are so ugly.

Want a raptor buy one. Can’t afford one, don’t try to be one.
