Mosquito Pass just outside of Leadville. Google it! Leadville is a great little town. Also can’t say enough about Ouray! Make a trip into American Basin or Yankee Boy Basin.

If you don't see a trail listed, we don't have a conditions report or you simply can't get to the trailhead yet. These reports are from first hand accounts and are accurate on the day published. 'Open with snow on the road' means, to get to the point in the update you have to drive, on trail, through snow. This is not recommended for stock vehicles, know your limits. Barring the fact that I did Mosquito Pass in my 1985 Honda Civic Wagon (ok, 4x4, but still a civic) I agree. It's not a difficult trail by any definition, but it IS awesome scenery.

    I'm subbing this!

I'm going to be in Colorado Springs Friday afternoon. I'll be there until the 13th.

We're going to do a lot of adventuring. I'm looking for a trail that will impress my wife and son. I'm also looking for something to exercise my truck. Of course, my truck is still pretty new. I'm babying it right now. I want to ease into off-road with it. I've done some hard stuff before but not with a truck that I spent this money on. Know what I mean? I still need to make it back to Texas too.

I know it's capable but I don't want to find/exceed the limits and ruin the whole trip.

Lived in CO most of my life, the Southwest corner is amazing ... Telluride, Ouray, Durango and then over to Grand Junction. They are all beautiful and offer tons of great outdoor activities!!

Well if you are going to Ouray you might as well hit up Great Sand Dunes National Park and stop by the Sangre De Cristo mountains and camp near Blanca Peak for a day before heading west. Gunnison is along the way and very nice and if you go all the way to Ouray you might be able to spend a d in Mesa Verda Nationals park.

Pikes Peak, while neat, is overrated and so is the drive. 4 corners is also super overrated.

All great suggestions so far. Gun to my head, I'm with @Littles on this one:

And honestly with the amount if distance you are traveling, a few hours farther west is a drop in the bucket.

I think someone said something about bear spray, most of the time they will leave you alone, this one did.

Play 18 holes on Friday in Pagosa Springs, he was just right of the 7th green about 30 ft up in the tree, just hanging out

Ya Bear Spray is really only for Grizzlies. Black bear generally mind their own business.

Just talk and that alone will keep them away.

I was in southern Colorado over the weekend. The Alipne loop is so much fun! Lots of old mines and ruins to see. Ouray,Silverton and Creede are great. Do the Alpine loop!

Look into the RimRocker trail. Its a 160 mile long over-landing trail with tons and tons of camping. Goes from Montrose to Moab. There are multiple side trails that could keep you busy for weeks. In general the trail is easy, but there are many sections that will demand you drive with care. Its well marked too. Huge potential to elk/moose/bear.
