Sucks dude. Insurance is the biggest f'n scam.

That said, the RAV4 Prime has been a curse since you bought it. You should just give it to me to alleviate the burden.

 

My nephew goes through these like it's nothing. He's probably a main culprit.

 

Each one seems to be a hassle. The first one that was totaled, I’m still dealing with medical bills that their insurance won’t pay until they bully me into an early settlement.

The second one has been great except the hassle of having insurance do their damn job and pay a comprehensive claim to put the vehicle back in the same, and safe, condition it was before.

This is why it’s nice to have a beater like my little EV or you having Judas to get bullied around the parking lots.

 

Speaking of insurance, our RV premium increased 30%. When I asked why they said that a) things are more expensive to repair now and b) I had a “not at fault” claim and that makes me more likely to have another “not at fault” claim. Yay me

 

That reminds me on early COVID days where people would literally drive only 2 miles a week to the grocery store, yet insurance went up because they just wanted to profit like everyone else.

 

Yes, Insurance companies are evil. Our house insurance is not being renewed this year due to wildfire danger shit. 23 years with same insurer and one claim for roof replacement due to hail in 2008. It's Evergreen. They expected us to NOW cut down every tree within 20' of the house. And some of those trees are NOT on our property. This was never an issue before the Marshall fire and the insurance companies got raped. That's why we buy insurance and they reap the profits when nothing occurs. But when they have to pony up some dough they freak out like the sky is going to fall EVERYWHERE.

Now we are looking for another insurance provider but having a hard time finding one that will cover due to "wildfire danger". Total BullKrap. There is a fire hydrant less than 30' from the house and the FD is 2.5 miles away with no major intersections to navigate.

We've had the same issue with vehicle insurance. My daughter moved up here in May of last year for college. We used to live in Arkansas (yes... we are a transplant and the ones that everyone hates and I get that). I've been coming out here since I was 9 years old and my wife and I were married right outside of Durango 24 years ago. I retired from the Little Rock Fire Dept at 48 years old. We had always planned on relocating after I retired to Colorado after I retired. So we all moved up here in May of last year. What I have found is the Springs has the 5th highest insurance rates in the country because of the military bases up here but also the extreme weather. We moved at the end of May last year and I can count on both hands the number of days that we didn't have severe thunderstorms from the end of May through the end of July of last year. That, insurance companies, consider a catastrophic event. I have a video of where we had golfball size hail for over an hour and a half. I now understand why "most" cars up here have hail damage. I can't walk into a parking lot without seeing more than half of the cars with extreme hail damage.

The insurance on my daughters car was $89 a month (and she was 18 at the time) back in Arkansas. Now it is $258 a month and her car looks like someone took a hammer to it. That obviously isn't accounting for the snow we got this year which she had no issue getting around in. We have a brand new WRX GT with a manual transmission of which only 500 were made. Insurance out of Arkansas is $81 a month. Up here??? It's $184 per month. The cost of living up here is no different than when we lived back in Arkansas. But insurance rates are ridiculous. I mean I get it... But damn... Is it expensive.

 

This is why people are fleeing the likes of CA and CO.

Obligatory “I don’t live in Colorado,” but those rates aren’t atrocious in this brave new world. I pay for my truck in SoCal around what you pay for that WRX. As for a 19 y/o, yeah her insurance will be expensive. Just how it works today.

Driving around here, I kind of get it… higher risk for insurance companies means higher rates.

 

When we lived in Arkansas, our insurance was bundled with our house insurance and both cars. So we got a pretty substantial discount which is to be expected. So my daughter got to take advantage of bundled insurance. $89 a month for when she was 18 years old was pretty low. When I was her age I already had 4 wrecks and I forget how many speeding tickets. But my insurance was $2400 a year and that was back in 88. But since moving out here, her insurance has more than tripled. And I understand we live in a military town with extreme weather. But my god is it expensive. Even our WRX (which is loaded) added over $100 a month just because of where we live. Don't get me wrong, I understand why due to the extreme weather we have here in the Springs. But still.... I've not had a ticket nor a claim in over 25 years seems pretty extreme. But... It is what it is. The cost of living out here (other that vehicle insurance) is the same as Arkansas (in some cases even lower). But insurance is a nuisance no matter how you slice it.

The amount of claims the state has also effects the rates.. I also bundle vehicles, trailers and my home. My deductible for the house went up $1500 bucks for wind/hail claims because of all the claims last year. Our broker is going to have our insurance "rescored" once the renewal generates since everything has jumped.

 

would it be safe to say, that lifting a taco and adding bigger wheels (37s) is the same as doing it to any truck, in that a regear might be warranted if said truck struggles to find a gear when towing or in the mountains.

 

My favorite conversation I had with State Farm a few years ago:

Me: why are my auto rates continually going up?

SF: there have been a lot of hail damage claims in your area in the past year.

Me: but I didn’t make a claim. And even if I did, so what?

SF: we base rates on location and a certain radius of claims being made in the area.

Me: but when someone makes a claim isn’t that what all those years of premiums they’ve been paying should cover?

SF:

Me: what is the true function of the premium I pay every month?

SF: to ensure coverage in case of an incident.

Me: so I ask again, if everyone is paying premiums in this arbitrary radius shouldn’t that ensure coverage and that you don’t need to raise the rates of others who haven’t filed a claim?

SF:

Me: I know you’re just an employee in the local office so this isn’t about you. But since I’m paying your company a lot of money every month and the success of our relationship, when I need your assistance, is predicated upon trust…can you just be honest with me? State Farm is raising my rates because they don’t like to see claims dip into their profits.

SF:



I’m seriously considering becoming one of those uninsured motorists that I currently have to pay an extra rider on my policy for…. which doesn’t really cover me any way.

TL;DR Don’t get me started on auto, home, or health insurance. One of the biggest fucking big business scams in the history of this society.

 

I believe 35"+ requires more than a lift, need to tub it too. Cab Mount Chop also required if you haven't already done so.

I would think 37" tires are far from ideal for towing as well.

Im too lazy to do anything about it. Thats why I’ve been with State Farm for 25 years.

But with the addition of my home nearing completion I need to redo my home policy. Now would be a good time to shop around.

I fork out just shy of a grand each month for home, vehicles and business ins. I'll never ever file a claim for business and they wouldn't ever pay it anyway, because LLC, but I am forced to pay it.
Filed a claim a decade ago for hail damage, every other house in the hood was getting a new roof, stacks of shingles for days.
But my damage was normal wear and tear. Fuck you Farmers.

In other news, 4am on the job, senior center pool, and I couldn't find the damn light switch.
Managed to not go for a swim so called it a win.


Had the cops roll thru half hour after I got there, I'm sure someone questioned the flashlight bobbing around.
They spotlighted me from the lot, I waved, they drove off.
