Got the Tacoma limited seats installed.

Would be nice to pull up the carpet and see if the lumbar wire harness/connector is there. It’s a bit too pushed out for me.

But overall a noticeable comfort difference. The foam is thicker and firmer giving much better support.

    Hell yeah!

Now find a 2004 MT ECU so you can buy one of the R150's I have to row your own gears and still pass emissions! :burnrubber:

I might just buy one OEM since they're still available. And most asking prices on used ones are only $100-150 cheaper than brand new.

    Here's a proposal:

I buy the ECU, move in with you and your family, act as your chef and nanny (sorry, can't remember how old your kids are), while I park my truck in your garage and you help me install the suspension and 5MT.

    :)

Do you have all the other parts already? If not this seems like a "buy a totaled truck with the parts you need" situation. I get why you wouldn't want to do that, though...

The only things I need (according to my amateur assessment):

Transmission/clutch (would buy the transmission off Tim)
    Crossmember
    Master/slave cylinder
    ECU
    Rear driveshaft

I don't know if my j-shift transfer case (hooked up to my auto) would work as is.

Not sure I need a parts truck for that.

I can imagine all the assorted brackets, linkages, and hardware being a hassle to source individual. I haven't read any how-tos, so my imagination might be getting carried away :)

No need for a front driveshaft or 4x4 computer?

in my research the front driveshaft is fine. The rear one needs to be swapped for proper length.

The 4x4 computer is part of my transfer case questions that remain.

I’d prefer to keep my current j-shift case but the shifter is currently to the left (drivers side) of the transmission shifter. Whereas on my 98 5MT (also jshift) the transfer case shifter is to the right of the transmission shifter.

Don’t know if it gets clocked when you hook it up to a manual transmission? But it seems like the shifter would be crooked if that’s the case.

Dan did a ton of research on t-cases, see https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/1st-gen-transfer-case-identifcation-for-replacement-swap.753707/ and https://adventuretaco.com/guide/step-by-step-replacing-the-transfer-case-on-a-tacoma/.

For sure the J-shift lever is different for A/T and M/T. Not sure how hard it is to swap that lever between cases. If you source a new case, you also need to be mindful of input shaft spline count. According to that thread, A340 and R150 use a 25-spline shaft while W59 (4-cyl M/T) use a 23-spline shaft.

Might as well do a multimode case swap too.

I remember reading that post on his website years ago. Didn't retain much of the information, lol.

mechanically it’s a direct ish bolt in, your 2004 with partial drive by wire is the pita. You need to either run resistors on the auto trans wiring so the AT ecu thinks the trans is still there or you find the holy grain of MT ECU’s without spending $1k+!

what’s an oem reman R150 run? Your tcase will bolt on and the drive shafts will work no problem. I think I’m running a dcab auto rear in my truck currently.

or get a valve body for your auto and or build it like a Supra drag trans and turbo your 3.4 so you don’t need 1 extra grear!

Put the axle back under it and in it's own weight so the leafs can start settling. I'm somewhat in a holding pattern waiting for some parts to finish building the axle (I thought everything came in the "C" kit)(I was wrong). In the meantime I'm going to reinforce the motor mounts and work on the front bumper mounting. I also need to pull apart the rear end and regear the diff. Yay...

There's an '04 MT ECU on Marketplace in Centenniel for $600. Well under $1k but still a long way from cheap: Taking the part number off that (89661-04830) and punching it into ebay finds a bunch for $600-$800.

Makes $725 from Ourisman seem not so bad: https://toyotaparts.ourismantoyotao...s/toyota-engine-control-module-ecm-8966104830

Also I'm curious how the shift levers fall in your setup if you're using the auto t-case? From Dan's writeup it looks like the lever is the only difference.

No BS just the facts. 8 yrs ago my son-in-law and I each purchased a new Gen3 Tacoma. BBP for me and Orange for him. Last month a careless driver in a F150 Super Duty plowed into the rear of his truck and totaled it. Luckly he was not hurt. The same week a young man down the street came up to me and said "I would like to purchase your truck." I told him he would have to pay fair market price for the truck and the mods (suspension, the supercharger, gears, and a few other odds and ends). I gave him the "price" and a few a week later I met him at his bank and he paid me in full. This past week my son-in-law and I each purchased a new Tundra. Have to say I miss my Tacoma but the Tundra is amazing and much nicer than the Tacoma. I will keep an eye and ear to TW and our Colorado members. Best wishes to all of you and thank you for making the TW community a supportive and knowledgeable place.
