It is great riding backcountry for free, but I don't want to walk all the way back up the hill all day.

You also have to ski with avi gear, and a couple other people packing the same heat.

Whereas with a season pass, you get all the conveniences of a resort (crowds included) and most have a bowl for backcountry. I agree with you that they are expensive and they don't adjust the price for shitty snow years, but since I'm still in college I can just go during the week to avoid the crowds....and I can go every week; so its an investment I put to good use!

If I had a full time job I would think about buying a season pass through a little bit more carefully.....but I'll cross that bridge when I get there :(

A bigger concern is do you have a spring compressor? Or what is your plan once have the shock and spring out of the truck. If you are questioning the spindle and upper control arm you may want to visit a local shop and have them do the work for you. Some might be cool enough to let in back and ask questions as they do the work. That will help you become more familiar with under side of your truck. Good luck!

A bowl is not back country. ;) yeah I get the resort thing. You also have to understand I have been living on resorts skiing and riding since I was 3. I like the freedom of back country, as for the avalanche gear yeah it expensive but me and most of my friends have it all do I guess I never think of that part. I do miss the convince of a lift though. Bit when we go we park a car way down the pass and hike as fat as we can making 1 run all we need.

are they supposed to charge you extra if the year is good?

lifts are very convenient and the past couple years i actually bought two passes, colorado and loveland passes...this year might only go loveland and skin up abasin when they allow it..

i'm excited to get more use out of the splitboard this year...hoping to get my level 1 training done in december too. i have seminar training and some experience under my belt, but having legitimate avalanche training would be nice to have..

Yeah bob everyone I go with has it. We are all back country rescue type people. It's nice going with certified rescue people because they will be the one saving you if need be. I can have all the certifications in the world but if I'm trapped I hope other people can help! We also ski with our dogs they can be a big help.

exactly...buying a beacon, shovel and probe is not to save your life but it's to save your backcountry partners' lives...so if you ride with unprepared people, it's your life you're risking..
