It really would not be a good area for what you want to do with it. It's more of a live off the land type area. If you want to have a place to use for tourists I'd for sure do it in created butte. Huge attraction area.

I understand. You planning to go off the grid? Is it in a flatter place or up in the mountains on rugged terrain? Not trying to narrow down where it is, just comparing your plan to mine. I may look to Wyoming or Montana, but that just makes it harder to run up there for a night or two on short notice.

Anyway, the first reason for having the place is to have a family vaca spot to start making memories and have a launching area for camping, hunting and wheeling. renting it out is just to make it less of a financial burden. Not so much marketing to tourists, but adventurers who are looking to have a hub for doing fun stuff in the area. Probably end up having more Colorado folk than out-of -towners.

 

It's off the grid enough no cell service for sure. With the new job I only have to drive to work 1 time every 6 days. So my wife and I want to get west to have land, farm it, hunt it, and enjoy life. And sorry I ment crested butte.

 

That sounds like the life, my friend. I truly hope that day comes soon for you. I want to do the same, but the wife wants our kids to grow up in town, with other kids to play with. So I compromised and said that we will live in town,but buy a retreat, then when our youngest is old enough to drive, we go and start working towards what you're talking about. This first place is just going to be our first taste of owning mountain property, and will be small, quiet and hopefully in the family for generations.

 

Yeah my wife grew up in the mountains so she is all for it. We are keeping our house in Denver though. I'm thinking 3-5 years and I will be up there. I want to wait for the right plot of land that will support what I want to do with it.
