Yeah, be careful out there as much as you can. You can prepare and try to be safe but in the end the river owns you and more powerful than most people can grasp. If you're familiar with the Poudre, the spot I almost bought it on was 'Twin Pin'. The raft in front of use got stuck on top at an angle and our guide's bright idea was to cross from the far left (a bunch of rocks littered the river on the right due to low tide) all the way across to the right, pick up speed to 'blast them off the rocks' and then turn back left to somehow avoid it ourselves. Needless to say that plan failed and we were high-side right before we know what happened and over. I popped out of the water into blackness and began walking the raft to the edge, found it, lifted it over my head to see daylight and that's right when I smacked into the rock. The guides were reaching for my hands to pull me out with huge eyes and all I could say was for them to get the girls out first. I could tell from the tone of their voices that I was in more trouble than I thought when they told me to grab their effing hands. Once up on top I helped to get everyone else out who was harmlessly passing beside the boulders towards the center of the river and they explained how dire the situation really was as had I gotten to the center of Twin Pin the current would have pulled me under to where the gap between the boulders was and that would be it for me as you're not fighting against that much force to pull a person out. Crazy stuff.

Plenty of class 5 up that way and when this all went down the river was really low so most class 4's were upgraded to 5's and 3's to 4's and so on. It was a fun trip but I think I'm pretty much done now too.

Ill never be done. Well as never as I can say. About the only class 5 in Colorado that truly scares me is Gore. Doesn't mean I don't run it or won't ever again. Because its truly an epic ride down. It's just like any other extreme sport they all have there risks. The good part about us is there is only like 3 people out of the people we raft with who are not white water or swift water rescue people. So it's about as safe as it can get.

Yeah maybe next year I can get ya into a true big water class 5 if your up for it. We can run the rivers when tours cannot so we get all the fun.
