I think I may fly out over 4 day and drive it back. I wish Jace would chime in or the other Toyota mechanic. He said he just did the timing service and water pump.

If I was in the market for a 4runner, I would have a hard time buying a 3rd gen for over 8k knowing this was out there. Factor in shipping or time off/fuel/plane ticket, I might pay a little more here rather then an out of state hassle.

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/sho...d.php?t=259716

He said the timing belt was done? Those need to be done every 100k miles or when the water pump leaks. It is due for its 1st spark plug replacement. The v8s don't really have too many issues to note. I've only ever seen a blown v8 due to customer neglect or damage (blown radiators, wrong oil filters)

The electronic actuator for the transfercase is known to leak, a big repair but easy enough.

I think it looks a little funny without the fender flairs. The carpet is very stained, did it get buried in the mud/water and have intrusion? Those newer trucks can be electrical nightmares after water intrusion. A guy in the RisingSun club totaled his 4runner recently due to that.

My dad has a 2003 v8 4runner. It gets about 16mpg on average. It has over 100k miles on the original tires and brakes. The only repairs so far was the early leaking water pump/timing belt job and the transfercase actuator leak. It has been a very good car to them. I said car because they never take it off road or even use real 4wd.

I would own a 4th gen. I think it would be a stock one for the wife rather then a built one for 4wheeling. After seeing that one it kinda changes my mind though, like I could wheel more then the mall.

I'm not saying I wouldn't buy it............it is very hard to get a thorough inspection that you can trust without being there. I'd really want to pick it over being a used wheeler.

Yep. If you buy that truck save up some $$$. Something that works now could break on the first trail run.
