Hey guys, I'm trying to paint my sliders but it keeps raining. I took some steel wall and removed most of the surface rust, but there's still some left. Especially around the welds. Will it be okay to prime and paint over that?

 

I took my mutts to the dog park today. Now my lab is standing in the yard getting rained on he loves it.

 

Unless you have a wire brush. Then I hit mine with brake clean to clean them off really good.

 

As long as you're using something like rustoleum that is made for inhibiting rust.

 

I'm using rust oleum but I don't think it is the specific rust-inhibiting primer. Bummer. Prepping and painting these is going to be a huge pita.

 

if it's only light surface rust, I wouldn't worry about it too much as the rustoleum will seal it off. If you have flakes and scales from the rust, then you need to get a grinder and go to work or get a can of rust converter.

I just repainted my driver side slider today. All I did was take a flap disc to it all and a wire brush. Then hit it with primer and paint.

 

There were a few flakes that I worked through with the wool, it took a while. I am going to look over them again and probably just get some primer on for now

 

make sure you rinse them off before painting to make sure there's not rust dust

I used acetone

 

Well I'm at the Dog park and he's off his leash (fenced park) and all he's doing is smelling things. He has no interest in playing. But at home it's all he wants to fucking do lol

 

I hardly ever leash my dogs. When I do my lab walks my pointer he takes the leashes in his mouth. Hahaha

 

Haha I just want to make sure hes not gonna be aggressive but another dog just got here and he's doing really well

 

Probably only going to get this one side and I'm only going to get it primed but looking good. What a pain to get good coverage while it is so close to the cab. Bolt on would be nice from the finishing aspect. Or at least prime and paint all I could before welding on.... I ha e learned a lesson

 

I have a lab and GSP they are not aggressive.

 

Yah another dog came and she's a long haired shepherd all three are getting along great!!! so glad.

Two sets of sliders welded up and prime red today!!! Looking good Travis, Ben and I already put mine to use today

I am impressed! Did you prime before welding on? I hope so cuz I wish I would have! I can't wait for the pics!!!
