I didn't say anything about anyone being a good or bad shot, or who should have a weapon. You atack me like you know my position, which you don't and now you look a bit foolish.

What I did imply is when you kill the wrong person, or when you get killed, by a civilian in a situation like Aurora, who gets prosecuted?

The four firearms safety rules apply but so does the CO statute that allows for someone to use deadly force against what they believe to be threats of imminent serious bodily injury or death against themselves or a third party.

If you are in the theater, and someone starts popping off with an AR-15 into the crowd from one end of the theater, and someone else starts popping off with a 45 auto at the guy with the AR-15, who are you gonna shoot? Who's the threat?

Before you start shooting, do a threat assessment, know your target. Chances are the guy with the 45 in the theater knows what he's doing, get to him, formulate a tactical plan if possible and go after the other dude.

I fully agree with the Colorado statute, protecting yourself and family, and with CC but where I find fault is when does a civilian take on the responsibility of everyone's life (if they ask for it/need it or not) and when people die could you not be at fault (or cause) for putting people in further danger (as a civilian?)

No offense BigRed, but its tough to explain the dynamics to someone who hasn't been through active shooter training. Its a different world, with projectiles flying around.

Read what I posted above. I don't have concerns about anyone's skill with a weapon.

You're not really required to take that responsibility like I am, but the statutes cover you, should you take that on.

It's a tough call, and in the end, the court really has to sort it out; I'm sorry I don't have a straight answer for you.

But I'd like to know that there are more civilians out there that have no qualms about taking on responsibility to attempt to protect each other!

Active shooter doesn't only involve skill with weapons; as a police officer, I am required to enter an active shooter situation, find and stop the threat. No more waiting around until SWAT gets there.

In a theater shooting situation, I would fall back on that. And that is why I carry into every movie, and every mall I go into.
