Who all has installed a winch on their own truck? I'm think about getting one really soon but I need to know what the install takes. I know I need some sockets and such to get my bumper off the winch plate, but i'm not sure what kind of wiring it takes.

I live in a dorm so I don't have the space or tools to figure it out as I go.

    A few bolts are different.
I did it on my truck. You can check out the preview issue of Tacoma Magazine to get a feel for what is involved. You will need access to tools and an extra hand.

I am anti winch. If you get yourself in there you can get yourself out. :)

There can be plenty of situations a winch can come in handy even when you didn't "get yourself in there"

Nah I will use another truck to get me out sometimes. I spent like 4 hours digging my self out one day. Its a pride thing I guess.

The winch would be more for when I go wheeling with others. If some one can't get up something I got up, then I can just give them a tug. I've also seen trucks get into spots that are bad to get out of, I'd rather use a winch then bust a ring and pinion. Or in the snow, if i'm ice or deep snow it would be almost impossible to get enough traction to use a tow rope.

It's more of a reassurance part than a performance part.

But i'm also talking with armorology right now about a flat belly t-case skid.....So I might just settle with that

If anyone wants in, I'll keep you updated on the progress/price. It will however, require the exhaust y-pipe to be re-routed around the t-case. Similar to the ATO skid.
