I loves me some flashlights. If you're looking for an affordable EDC that won't be beat in performance look no further than the Fenix PD32 Ultimate edition. It's 740 lumens on the turbo setting and you can use disposable CR123 batteries or even a rechargeable 18650 battery. They also make a AA version that I've owned and it's also a good flashlight but the CR123/18650 version is much better.

If a weapon light is what you need take a look at the Greg McGee's offering. Greg is an engineer w/Ball Aerospace here in Colorado and makes some phenomenal lights. For weapon mounted search lights I run the M3-2I with the 1,000 Lumen option. I see he now has a 1,200 lumen option too. This light is incredible and there's videos of him driving nails into boards not only with the body/bezel but even with the lense! All this for under $100 and you can use both CR123's as well as rechargeable 18650 batteries. He sells the batteries (good Tynergy ones) with a charger for a fair price and if you get both flashlights I mentioned this would be a wise investment so you're not going through CR123 batteries. Trust me, you'll want to show off your light to everyone you meet so it'll chew through batteries pretty quickly. This is the perfect light to strap onto an AR15. Lots of people I know in LE and military run these and they're outstanding. I quit buying Surefire & other expensive lights years ago and haven't regretted it. The 500 lumen light you're talking about from Surefire is likely a Fury which costs about twice as much and is capable of half the light output and the head us dumb (on/off) whereas this one has lots of features.

Just bought a MagLite 3D cell LED flashlight yesterday. Will give me a good enough light output, plus it's big enough for defense just in case... Haha

    I don't use flashlights.

I have the entire exterior lit with LED can lights now. 5000k @ 23wts. They were not cheap but are supposed to last 25 years. We shall see. :D
He'll just light a fire and see you. Either that or he has night vision goggles.

Crap! Anyone know the solution this:

My HP work computer typically sits on a docking station. I open it and use that monitor and my main HP monitor together for work. I decided to work on the patio this morning with just the laptop. When I came back in and put it on the dock, turned it on, and flip open the screen, my main monitor screen flips upside down. If I keep my laptop closed my main monitor rights itself.

    WTF?

Edit: My graphic card decided to wig out. Had to adjust the display rotation settings with the laptop screen open. So everything was upside down and in reverse. Talk about maxing the hand/eye coordination with the mouse.

That M3-2I looks like a great light - at 1000 (or 1200 - yikes) lumens, you'd definitely want the charging set, 'cause you'd be burning through 123s at about a box a month. The Fury's not a bad light - new, they're going for about $110, and I got mine in a combo deal with some camera stuff at B&H for around $80, IIRC. Good battery life, and has been used with great success four times thus far to remove delinquents from my property. Even only 500 lumens works great at night - I'd hate to see what 1000 lumens would do.

This was my solution too (LED spots with a motion detector) to keep drunk students from peeing in a dark corner of my property. Don't even have to get up anymore - just wait for the 'bzzz' and the ensuing 'shit, that's a bright light!'.

Do you have a 'you're in Australia' setting checked with the monitor attached? ;)
