The red dots here are stormchasers - wouldn't want to be the guys in the pink- and red areas there - probably getting golfball-sized hail at the least.

    Charger.

I was in my parking spot at home, ready to log off and all other units on calls and two traffic accidents with unknown injuries came out. I stepped up to take one and headed out to it but they ended up being the same and a closer unit cleared so I turned around and went back home.

All of the north guys on were in the middle of the shit. We have to be, we sit there and watch the storm in the middle of the worst area, to be the first on scene to help if needed.

Its a freakin rush too man!

Anybody in the Fort Collins area got a brake drum puller, btw? I'm halfway through fixing my ebrake, and the passenger rear drum is stuck fast. Got the star adjuster adjusted all the way in, but the threaded bolt holes are stripped out (thanks, previous owners, for that) and I can't get the freakin' thing off.

Are you Skywarn? I did a bit of that many, many years ago as a grad student, then dropped that to do more freelance chasing. Haven't chased since 2008, but still like to see if my targets verify. :)

EDIT TO ADD: Just saw your LE tag under your avatar, d'oh. Props you guys - we always tried to get *away* from the core, but you guys have to just sit through it. Yikes.

never heard of such a tool? spray the hub where the drum sits against it with penetrating lube. and in 10 mins beat on it with a big rubber hammer or lightly with steel hammer close to the hub. itll pop off.

Beat the shit out of the edges with a sledge...not quite the professional way but if you do it right, it'll loosen it up and you can pop it off.

Hey Kodiak... you ever have to work accidents at 119 and I-25 overpass?

I can't believe the percentage of time I go through there and there's an accident or remnants.

Makes me super cautious to go through there on a motorcycle.

I'd be curious to see the stats on that intersection.

On the overpass or the on 119?

Don't go east on 119 in the morning under 25, visibility is so freakin bad...most of our crashes are north between the 243 and 250 north and southbound.

But yea that interchange under 25 and all those intersections... :annoyed:

I've got it soaked pretty thoroughly with PB Blaster, and I've been givin' 'er the once-over with the hammer. Haven't tried a hand sledge yet - will probably be replacing this drum, so maybe it's time to get medieval. Might let the PB Blaster soak in overnight and try again tomorrow - my other thought was to tap new threads into the puller holes and pop it that way, but a drum puller tool is the bomb for pulling drums. Just checkin' to see if anybody had one locally - if not, I'll resort to more 'persuasive' techniques.

If you learn a bit about storm structure and motion, and more to the point, learn how to read a radar display and can get a decent internet connection on the road, you can usually navigate around the precip and stay in the clear air. Still something you'd want to do with somebody else who knows what they're doing your first year or so. Any more, the worst part about chasing is the hundreds of other chasers on the roads now (something the LE contingent here probably also chafes at.)

But the 'beater chasemobile' approach has been done with perfect success too:
