Talking about on 119. Not sure if it's people turning left from westbound 119 to go south on I-25 or what. Just seems like a crazy amount of accidents.

 

I'd met Tim Samaras - he gave a talk where I work a few months prior to his passing, and he was good friends with the guy who got me into chasing when I was an undergrad doing student work at NCAR. The details of how Tim and his group got caught up south of El Reno were a topic of a lot of discussion earlier this year - uncoordinated road closures, a rapidly evolving storm, a *lot* of chasers on the road, and just terrible luck all contributed to it. He was easily one of the most skilled and careful chasers out there, though.

Yeah I liked that guy. He was on Storm Chasers for a couple of seasons. Never met him. I am like Jace ... I would to do some storm chasing but have no experience.

We should do a TW storm chasing weekend! :-D

 

Totally worked - drum fell right off, no real damage, even. No sleep for the wicked tonight!

Tim was a great guy, and will be missed dearly.

A TW chase weekend would be fun assuming everybody here likes driving in rush hour traffic, on muddy roads, with a sky that's trying to kill you. Last chase I was on, the line of chaser vehicles (to include the DOW and the TIV) looked like the ending of 'Field of Dreams', and that was five years ago on a relatively crappy storm - with mobile internet and radar apps now, it's only gotten worse...

Its funny that you mention that, our most recent at that location was this exact reason.

 

I feel like I saw someone from here going up the trail for Argentine Pass off of whatever that road is in Georgetown following the signs to Guinella Pass.

Black or dark taco with soft topper. I was lost so I missed the trail head and never saw you up top, otherwise I would have been right behind you.

Was my first time up there so I decided to just stick on 2484-1 or whatever it is. Oh yea, that hail and ridiculous rain everyone has been talking about? Crap got me right as I was descending to the more narrow and treacherous parts up top. 30 minutes of hail on the side of a mountain and the rest of the way down in hard rain. Lots of rivers running through the road and more exposed rocks.. several beach ball sized boulders were in the road too on the way down that weren't there before, disorienting as hell but glad none rolled down in to me.
