Flap disc works great on the bumper! Do I just need to focus on the rusted chipped parts and take them down to almost bare metal? I'm hoping I don't have to strip the whole bumper

Why not just strip it down to bare metal while your at it?

Is it that much of a pain in the ass?

Not terrible but why do something that possibly doesn't need to be done. Eric or bob chime in and let me know thoughts. Clean up all the chipped rusty spots only or try and strip the whole bumper to bare metal and re spray primer and bed liner?

I would strip it all so the bed liner sticks better.

Is it a raised area due to a repaint? Like they cleared around the emblem?

If you're good with body finishing you could try to sand and buff. I've had luck with just a heavy cutting compound. I really try and stay away from sanding any clear coat.

If you want it to last and look even I would strip the entire thing. Prime, sand, prime, light sand and spray with bed liner.

Goo Gone will work. It takes some time and rubbing. Unless...
    you got this problem. ^^^

Those lines might be two things:

    1. Remnants of adhesive which will require a polish and wax to get rid of (that's what my experience was when debadging)

    2. If you can't feel the line persay, then it might just be a difference in paint color between the paint under the badge and the rest of the truck. Again a polish and wax will help it but truly only time will make it fade as the fresh paint (under the badges) get exposed to UV

It's not a repaint. There's no raised area, just faded

SHIIIIIIIIIIT, :D:D thats not the answer i was looking for because trying to strip the areas in the inside corners and between the bumper and the hitch triangle is gonna be a bear!

the thing has so much paint on it already that the flap wheel is melting the paint before removing it. Im gonna probably go through like 5 or 6 flap wheels to get all the paint off

im inpatient if you cant tell :D

use paint stripper first and then use the flap wheel to make it purdy and shiny?

I've never used a chemical process to remove paint, but I've heard it does a decent job. Someone else may have first hand knowledge though.
