I'm sure there's some hole in the wall place in the city proper that does them better but Portillos is kind of the staple hot dog place. At meal times there are literally lines out the doors and around the buildings from all the locals. It's not uncommon for the drive through to take 5-10 minutes at dinner time.

Hot Doug's might be better but not by much. Half the fun is testing to determine which one was better. I like the deep dish pizza though so we invested more of our meals on 'testing' those. lol

I've had Portillos and it's totally worth a road trip.

Portillos also offers a meal for 10 deliverable to anywhere Omaha steak style. It's like $75 or so. Comes with directions on how to cook the dogs and all the fixings. I've often thought about ordering it just to see if it's like the real thing.

Yeah between the pizza, beef sandwiches, and hot dogs, I gain 20 pounds every time I go home to visit my family.

Or we can go big. The 50 pack is $173.

2 dogs each for 25 people. About $7 a person.

You can also buy all the Vienna supplies from mile high Vienna beef stand, we make em at my house all the time. Only thing we haven't perfected is the steamed poppy seed bun :(

Easiest way I've managed is a mesh screen over a pot of boiling water. Not sure what it's called but I have this rack that's like a cookie sheet made out of 1/4" wire squares. It's crude but it gets the job done.

Place bun open side down for about a minute over the boiling water. Nice soft hot bun with no toasted effect.

A small handful of select mods.
Last time out in Chicago I went to a hole in the wall joint in the middle of no where. Can't even remember the name. But they were cheap and they were tasty!

I agree if you add sauerkraut.

But I'm from NJ/NY so we have MAJOR battles with Chicago over hot dogs and pizza... you know, the important things in life.

    Yeah those are important!!

If you want a good slice here in CO try Fuhgidabowdit pizzeria in Thornton it just opened and a guy I work with owns it. He's from NJ so I figure he knows pizza. I think it's good. It's about the same as one on Brighton, I just say the Thornton one because I know the owner.

My favorite pizza in Denver so far is Wyman's on 13th and Vine. It's Chicago style, so very deep dish...but man is it good.
