That video also helps prove my theory that gopros make people take risks they might not ordinarily take.

I believe there is some truth to that.

People were taking those risks long before gopro cameras. I use a gopro for a lot of things and it does not influence any of my decisions. Do not pass the blame for stupidity. The camera did nothing wrong. :D

It could also be lifestyle choice. Friday night drive down town and see how many cruisers/choppers you see outside of bars and how many street bikes you see. One can also consider age being a culprit since older people tend to ride cruisers more than young people who tend to choose street bikes so maybe faster reflexes & better vision comes into play. Then again, perhaps with wisdom comes better decisions & caution so maybe those offset? The point is, often people say bikes like the one in your picture are safer and the truth of the matter is they aren't. Hit either one with a pick-up truck at 75mph and tell me which one offers more protection to the rider. The rider is the constant in both situations of variable motorcycles. No sense arguing statistics because they don't matter.

While this is largely true there is some bit of truth to it too. We did a lot of stupid stuff on motorcycles and the stuff we did that wasn't on camera was practice for when we were on camera. lol Hell, we even had a video that was pretty bad ass for the time. Would I have been doing 135mph wheelies on I25 while changing lanes and passing cars if there wasn't a camera rolling? Hard to say but probably not. Would I have ever found out I could even do that if it wasn't for cameras and showing off for others? Probably not. Am I asking myself questions that I'm also answering? Yep! :p

I am not at the least blaming the camera. The guy was an idiot. There just seems to be a correlation between wanting to pit a cool video on the internet and pishing your limits.

Maybe I am exposed to more of an immature demographic but that is what I have noticed.

Granted we are only able to see these idiots because they had a gopro. Otherwise we may not ever hear about these things.

Which brings up another valuable point: Lots of stupid shit happens all the time that we don't get to see because it wasn't captured on camera. :D

I did it without the camera rolling all the time. Like I said that's why I sold mine riding a stand up while changing lanes to go around cars only putting it down because I was coming to the red light at the end of the off ramp. So I will stick by my statement that the gopro is not to blame.

I certainly won't argue the point that a collision on any bike has potential for death. It's just stupid to think otherwise. My point is you are more visible to the cagers, (on a bigger bike) at least the ones who are actually looking at the road and not their phone.

And yes, age and reflex plays a big part for sure, I'm certainly slowing down and losing my edge but that won't keep me off the bike.

I'm one of those guys parked outside the bar. The crotch rockets are there too but they park in the back.:spy:

Oh trust me, these things happen without the cameras. At least 1 a year for me I pick some sort of body part up off 1 of our highways. It's just the way it is. People will push limits cameras rolling or not.

True.... though I wonder if it's the camera pushing more people to be idiots to capture a cool video?

or because of camera more idiots are just being seen doing what they normally do...

    chicken or the egg

My point was that there are WAY more that think that drinking while riding is acceptable in the cruiser/chopper community than in the street bike community. We used to ride with a group of 40 or so around Fort Collins and not one of us went to the bar at night on our bikes. Meanwhile I know TONS of people who go out drinking while riding their Harley. It's almost expected in that community which is stupid.

The funny part is that I drive only cars and trucks now and, having been a long time two-wheeler, I make it a point to watch for motorcycles and from a car or a truck that 10% larger size doesn't equate to being able to see them any easier. I've had numerous times where I saw a motorcycle on the 3rd or 4th look when I didn't see them the first and second time when most people feel like they did their part if they even looked once. Don't be fooled into thinking that you're any safer or easier to be seen by a car on a cruiser because you're assuming that the cager who hits you was even looking for you in the first place. They're not safer.

I think the point wasn't that the camera was to blame so much as they people tend to turn up the stupid knob when they know they're on camera. Hell, Joe Francis made a Kagillion dollars on this phenomena.

Well I'm glad that at least one guy is watching out for me and my ilk.:D

Ost, your opinion really doesn't differ all that much from mine. You are passionate about what you believe and articulate in how you present it.
I'm that guy who says stupid shit to get a rise out of people or maybe a laugh at my expense. I also like controversy so I play devils advocate now and then.
They serve ice water at the bars too, my drink of choice on the bike. I hang around there because they're my peeps.

Haha, I took no offense if it came across that way. I like reading what Ost has to say and agree with his views quite a bit. Even his view on proper Murican names like Ted. :)
