Huge shout out to Brett for coming over to help me out yesterday. Not only did he come over & pretty much do all the work himself he also brought a lift which made the rear leaf swap a lot easier but he also brought a bunch of tools & such too. One-man-wrecking crew he was! Thanks again for your help and my back/shoulder also thanks you for all the work you did which saved me a ton of work.

After doing 6 of these on both gens, they are getting quite easy. (as long as the bolts aren't rusted in place :p ) I have learned something new on each one too. This time I got to watch Ost remove and change the coils while still on the truck, very impressed with this method. Was actually easier, safer and faster than using a spring compressor or press.

Thanks everybody and thanks again to Brett. BTW, that one that was frozen in place was about the only one that could be frozen in place and not have completely thwarted the install efforts so I'd say we got lucky. No worries at all on Archer because he's an awesome dog and required little to no effort to make sure he stayed content in the back yard. I had done the coils once already with that method and fought it more the first time so it just goes to show that practice makes perfect. This is the way that everyone should be changing out their coils on their Tacoma IMO. I mentioned it in threads and people think I'm making some Incredible Hulk joke and I plan to compress the springs with my hands but that's just not the case. If you search you'll see that plenty of others do it this way and it makes needing a compressor of any kind obsolete.

got a question for you guys with sliders; should I be concerned that the slider is 1/4" from contacting the fender/cab mount with zero weight on the sliders?

So is that jack stand in the pic just sitting there or is the truck's weight on the jackstand? I need to understand if the slider is flexing under weight and stops 1/4" from the pinch weld of if this just under normal conditions with the weight of the truck on the tires.

the jack stand is just holding the sliders in place. Had to line them up with the bolt holes in the frame(bolt-on bamf sliders). There was no flex on the sliders, so this should be under normal weight conditions.

Bolt on sliders and it looks like that first footer is about 12+ inches back. Under weight that might flex up into the bottom there but the only way you could test it is to bolt them on, lift the truck, and set that jack stand at the end there and VERY slowly let the jack down. You will see then just how much flex it has.

checked the drivers side while it was mocked up and it cleared. haven't try passenger side yet, so fingers crossed.

right on, thanks. I'll have to give it a try when I get time to drill into the frame for all the bolts. Tempted to just bring it to insain and have them weld it on

You can put them on with bolts in the existing holes and drill later.

I didn't even have to remove them to drill.

My driver's side cleared fine but the passenger side didn't. The support legs on the passenger side were clearly welded higher on the frame plates than the driver side. I had to add shims to drop the frame plates on the passenger side.

I might have to. one of the legs doesn't quite reach the hole in the frame, so I'd have to either extend the slot on the slider or make the hole in the frame larger.

or I might be able to fit a smaller diameter bolt through there.

Edit: Heres a pic of the leg.. you can see the frame opening at the very top of the slider slot, however its not big enough to fit the supplied bolt through.
