Hey guys, is running 14.28 to lean for the tacoma. I read that it should be at 14.7 anyone with any info would be great. I was running rich and I did a mod I found here that show how to take away the CEL away but now I'm running lean. Im so exhausted trying to figure out these long tube headers that I just might put everything back to stock.

14.7 is stoichiometric but you don't want to run that close to the line between stoich & lean. Better to be slightly on the rich side. If you're tuning I'd probably aim for 13.0ish and about 12.0ish for forced induction.

The good news is that that service in and of itself is a right off so you're already ahead next jb the form of a tax credit. ;)

Nope, not trying to tune. I really have no clue what I'm doing. I had the check engine light on since I added the headers and now decided to start looking into trying to remove the check engine light. I removed the light with the mod but now I'm running 14.28. So what i would like to know can i pass smog with that and is the engine going to run ok?

What was your knock activity? Your ECU was likely pulling timing to prevent predetonation & that's not a world you want to live in long term.

Don't remember what the knock count was but it ran 93 octane at sea level

It would be measured in degrees. With today's cars you can run 15.0 because they'll sense knock & pull timing but if you continue running this way damage will eventually occur. Running 14.0 even on 100oct isn't enough margin for error. Boost requires even more margin. In most cases the amount if timing that's pulled will result in even less power. It's not worth being on the ragged edge for 3-4hp.

Went back and looked at my old dyno graphs and they were flat on 12 not 14. You were right

That sounds right. I was having a hard time wrapping my mind around tuning for 14.0 & not having a kaboom! I like being right. It feels good. ;)

I always do my returns and e-file online through one of the free services. My only complications are tuition deductions and HSA deductions so I do have to file a full 1040. I don't have a house, kids, and take the standard deduction besides the one off tuition and HSA that count on separate forms.

I also make 1 claim on my W-4 which usually gives me half to one paycheck worth back on my taxes. More when I factor in the tuition and HSA deductions though I paid way more in tuition then I actually got back on taxes, but it helps.
