My wife and I are moving out to CO Springs from Arkansas at the end of the month. Looking for a place had been a struggle. We finally just found something. I think MJ has had a lot to do with the boom out there. A lot of people are going out there for it with very little expecting to get a job and housing, when there's plain and simple, very little left and no demand for the kinds of jobs they're expecting to get. So after they spend all their money getting there they're left with no money and bumming people's couches. I'm sure kids are flooding to colleges there to reap the benefits too, and the rate for those that move out of state after graduation has decreased. This is theory, but seems logical to assume.

I got a job interview at a high school here in Fort Collins (poudre school district) tomorrow!
Pretty excited, this is the 14th job I applied for without a call before this. Tough district to get in to.

We're renting a mother-in-law house (like an attached guest house) in Colorado Springs just north of Colorado College. Short lease and is larger with cheaper rent than an apartment. Gives us time to settle in and look for homes while we're actually in the state.

Old North End, it's a nice area! Used to live a couple of blocks east of there, by a Safeway. Close to a lot of stuff and the interstate, which is a great commodity to have. When you end up moving, make sure you don't have to do daily East-West or vice versa drives. It's a pain. Pretty much stay away form the East side, unless you work over there. It's cheaper to live, but a pain in the butt to get to and fro.

I'm glad you posted that. I've had people ask me what area we were moving to and I had no clue what it was called. I just kept saying few min walk from Colorado College. It definitely is a nice looking area. Threw me off with all the hispanic street names lol. I'm prospecting a job out by the airport unfortunately lol. East side looks a little rough. But being from Little Rock, I'm use to seeing those kinds of areas haha.

I grew up next to the airport down there. It's not too bad there are some nice neighborhoods there. But there are some shitty ones as well. I personally would never move back to the springs (any part) after living else where in the state. The problem with the springs is its so transient.

If I had a choice we wouldn't be living in the springs. But for now, it's where we will settle. My wife has a very particular set of skills (lol). She's a sign language interpreter. The only school for deaf and blind is in the springs. Hopefully when we start looking for houses we'll venture out a little. Maybe as far north as Castle Rock ($$$). We'd love to build but jesus christ, land is so much more expensive in CO.

There is a huge deaf and blind community and school in Denver
Well the CSDB has campuses here in denver and a lot of students living in the Littleton englewood area
I used to contract the gym at the englewood location when I did youth sports for the YMCA

Yeah you beat me to it Andy. There is also a small school for the deaf and blind right behind Arapahoe Community College by me.

Very interesting guys.. I'll definitely shed some light on the misses with these schools. This might open a large area up for us when we start looking for homes.

The further north you get on the east side the better it gets. My in-laws live over there and it's really great. They live right off of a golf course, awesome views and amenities. But I agree, further south by the airport it can get worse. Honestly, if you looked on the crime maps where I live, you'd see all sorts of stuff happening, but in my immediate neighborhood, it's NOTHING. It is really hit and miss from neighborhood to neighborhood.
I think you're doing it right, move here, rent for a while and figure the city out, before buying.

Interestingly I Googled it and the CS one was the only one that came up. So I looked at Google Maps and the one by me is the Colorado Center for the Blind.

    http://coloradocenterfortheblind.org/

Looks like they just focus on the blind not the deaf.
